Just read the link and it got me thinking episodic CH too.

What other headache might make you think of suicide, happens over a period of "a few weeks" and makes your nose drip like mad?

This sounds kinda...gross...but has anyone ever had the sinus "leakage" from an attack analyzed? I never considered that it might be spinal fluid, but is that even possible?

In any case, if George does have CH, there's yer posterboy!

Yeah, the part about spinal fluid dripping from his nose????  First, how could, even with a severe back injury, allow spinal fluid to come out of one's nose?

However, none of the other typical symptoms of CH was mentioned other than headache and nasal drip.

I don't know.  How about we post a little sympathy blurb on George's website and tell him to google CH as a possibility?

Just thinkin cuz I ADORE George Clooney and no suicide is allowed!

Fantastic idea about posting something on his website about CH's  At the very least, it would bring more CH awareness.

Having had two lumbar punctures, once for suspected meningitis and the other when trying to work out what was causing my headaches, just losing a few drops results in a fairly strong (by non-CH standards) headache, so having it drip out your nose would be total agony and result in a bit more than just a headache.

I think it can't possibly be spinal fluid.

The part about "lying in a hospital bed" doesn't really sound like CH, but ya never know. It could be episodic - the three weeks sounds pausible and the drip.. (don't think it was spinal fluid).

Not wishing CH on him, but HE would make a great poster boy.. And it would get the WORD out in a hurry...  Kiss

He had spinal injury and couldn't move, bedridden with IV in his arm.  Embarrassed

Unlike some of the newbies that come on this board and say they lay down and meditate to rid the pain.   Grin

Personally haven't looked at his website-yet, anybody post anything there or find out addtl info on his current condition?

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak may occur from the nose (rhinorrhea), from the external auditory canal (otorrhea), or from a traumatic or operative defect in the skull or spine.[1] The fluid leak is a result of meningeal dural and arachnoid laceration with fistula formation. Blunt trauma is the most common cause. See the images below.

I would imagine that they did testing to determine that it was actually cerebrospinal fluid.

Well, that's good info. Again, I have to ask:  has anyone ever had the sinus "leakage" from an attack analyzed? I sorta thought it was just booger juice (technical term...)  Tongue

Grin Grin Grin

I never thought about calling my nasal drainage with a hit as "bugger juice" (technical term or not) but that's always what I thought it was!

Thank you for my laugh of the day.

from the Guardian article:
Quote:
He suffered constant pain and splitting headaches as doctors initially could not identify the problem. He could not take painkillers in case he became addicted to them;
several members of his family had suffered that fate.
Instead, he had to prepare mentally through
therapy that taught him to forget his own pain.

OK, then: the headaches may have a genetic component. Some of the posters/sufferers here have family members with clusters. There is a recurring thread here, no?

In any case, maybe someone with, say, OUCH clout could approach Mr. Clooney with "our" condition and need for recognition of the problem getting cheap and effective medicine. We've been looking for a posterboy. Even if George doesn't have CH, maybe he would be willing to go to bat for a condition which drives people to suicide. I mean, Jerry Lewis didn't have muscular dystrophy and he raised a few bucks...

I would be interested in a therapy that would teach me to "forget" the pain, even though I haven't had an episode in several years (praise BobW and Clusterbusters!)

That article was written in 2005 it says.

At the end of the article I posted it says

Quote:
He's since had surgery to help him with the spinal problems, but Clooney says he still gets headaches connected to the accident.

Only that the article you posted said that his headaches were "banished" by surgery in 2005, however, the recent article states he still has headaches connected to the accident.

We just don't know the "nature" of these continuing headaches.
