Melatonin ?
Nov 13th, 2011 at 9:46pm

Started taking Melatonin last week every night before bed to ease the night time TORTURE by the DRAGON.

Started with 9mg, after 3 nights increased to 15mg, makes absolutely no difference in frequency or intensity of attacks.

Using 3mg lozenges that are suppose to be immediate release form manufactured by the Vitamin Shoppe.  Bottle reads to place under tongue, this takes forever so I just swallow them with water.

Thought I read somewhere among the many, many Melatonin threads that it may take a week or 2 to become effective.

Anybody with ideas to share? Roll Eyes

I remember people mentioning that some types of melatonin worked and others didn't.

Can anyone remember which?

There was a thread awhile back that went into the differences between types of melatonin.

It was generally agreed that the "good stuff" is

n-Acetyl-5-Methoxytryptamine.

Some people take a combo of both the immediate release (to get to sleep right away) and the time-release (to stay asleep).

I did an informal survey a few years back, 9-18 mg was the effective dosing for most, and for those that it worked for, several days seemed to be the norm for people to see a positive effect.

I take 9mg Melatonin every single night and have been doing for over a year now.

My worst kip 10 attacks were always 12-1am in the morning, like clock work and its been trial & error over many months to see what works for me.

It took 2/3wks before i noticed any difference but i havent had a kip 10 since May this year, though at the height of my cycle it still hit kip 7....

I use the brand i have linked below....i tried half a dozen diff brands but they didnt work for me so now i have them shipped over to the uk when i need them.

Since May this year i have also been doing Vit D regime - for me again it took a while to kick in & get the dosage right for me.

Since august this year i have been PF - no shadows - nothing Smiley After 30mths of being chronic its still feels surreal, like a dream and i can only live each day as it comes and hope that CH as gone for good.

Prev i was seasonal having 2/3 cycles a year - my first cycle would start in a march soooooo i guess i will wait and see - still hang onto hope Smiley

I take the supplements and the melatonin every day.....even though no signs of CH....i did try a few weeks ago stopping to see what happened and within 3/4 days i was getting shadows ...low but defin that horrid knowing and dread that "it" was there still waiting to get me and the fear is instantly back  - straight back on supplements and i will stay on them!!!

Wishing you PF days & nights Smiley

Melatonin has the advantages of being cheap, OTC--but it is not one of the better meds for Cluster. It may be a good supplement but one of the standard preventives would be a more effective starting point.

See PDF file, below.
