New Neuro
Nov 15th, 2011 at 12:55am

Hi All!

I just want to report some good news for a change!  I know we all have horror stories about Drs and Neuros who think M.D. means God, and I've had mine, but I had an appt with a new Neuro yesterday that was amazing!  Dr. Matthew McCoyd practices at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood IL.  He has been seeing my wife for her MS, but I wouldn't bother seeing him for CH until I interviewed him a bit during one of my wife's appts.  He understood I had a pretty good handle on what has worked for me in the past and didn't try to push things on me.  He was wiling to write a script for 40lpm of O2 without question, in fact he asked me how much I wanted it for!  He has a rudimentary knowledge of mushroom and LSD treatments, although he could not recommend them, and is interested in both the BOL project and Batch'es regimen.  I'm to email him links to both subjects.  For the first time since my 1st Neuro moved and quit treating CH patients almost 20 years ago I have a Dr I'm looking forward to seeing!  His only question about Batch'es method is he wants to check with an Endocrinologist about 10,000 units of Vitamin D.  He doesn't have any problem with prescribing 5,000 units, but wants to check out the higher levels.  I love a Dr that says he doesn't know, but will find out!  Much different than the last three I fired.

Dr McCoyd had a resident with him when he came in for the appt.  First he saw my wife and examined her then he turned me over to the resident to do a history and to learn firsthand from a clusterhead what CH is really all about.  I appreciated that!  Not only did I find a GOOD Dr who understands, but I also got to do a little teaching to a new Dr who will be pursuing a career in Neurology.  She even got to observe a K4 while we were there.  I hate doing that, but I guess it is good for them to observe it as it happens.

Great news Jerry that you've both found a great doc plus a chance to educate another who will be able to pass on the knowledge to other people with CH.

That is way cool Jerry! I have always thought that an intelligent person is not the one who knows everything...cuz no-one does...but one who has the skill and will to find out what they don't know. Sounds like you got a winner....and I love it when a resident is allowed hands on.

Best,

Jon

Jerry, make sure you give his name and address to Christy to add to the "sufferer recommended doctors"  list on OUCH.   Wink

DITTO LINDA, let's get this doc posted on the OUCH list if he's not already.

But Jerry, I know how bad it's been for you lately and I'm so elated that you may have just found a doc who cares, listens, and is willing to learn.  This kind of doc is hard to come by.  Hang on to him!

Good going!

Sandy

That has been done!  I never thought I would find a Dr again that I actually wanted to see.
