airline travel mid-cycle
Nov 16th, 2011 at 9:06am

I was wondering if anyone out there has ever flown during a cycle or at the very end of a cycle. I am in the second week of a new cycle and have plans to go to Jamaica in 3 weeks. My normal cycles last 6 weeks, so I should be near the end. Just wondering if anyone has had adverse effects while flying.

Several have posted that flying aggravates their cycles, several, myself included, have never had issues with flying. It's one of those scary "trial and error" issues! I bring my imitrex stat kit with me, TSA has checked it out a couple times and has no issue with it. As soon as we clear security my wifey grabs a red bull for her purse just as an insurance policy!

speaking of red bull. Do you use the small or large size cans. I have tried the large cans of Monster with very limited success.

Energy drinks. They didn't work for me by themselves. I use them in combination with my oxygen or imitrex. For me, Oxygen or imitrex will knock an attack right out. But with oxygen, and to a lesser degree imitrex, the headache came back 10 minutes later. Now I chug a 12 ounce, sugar free red bull, while aborting with oxygen. Seems to speed the abort, and pushes the come backer attack several hours.

A long way of saying I use the 12 oz size, but not all by itself.

With my being chronic there's never been a way not to fly when I've had to, so I stash a supply of Trex shots and take a prescription for O2 and my mask and regulator with me after finding the closest O2 supplier to the airport.

But funny thing happened. I didn't need any of it and I was away from home for ten full days! Color me shocked! I have no idea why the clusters broke in that period.

Of course I got slammed big time the very night I got home...

I've done a huge amount of flying this year and have never had any CH issues whilst in the air, yet...

For international flights I've always bought a Red Bull or similar once through security, but I've not done this for domestic travel.

I've arranged for oxygen to be available at my destination, but found that I've rarely needed it.

Took a flight a couple weeks ago and was scared to death. Had little to no safety net. I did pack a Red Bull on the plane but that's it. It was only an hour long flight but didn't have any issues until I settled in at the motel later. Luckily, I picked up a couple of those disposable insta-cold packs before heading to bed (only about 2-3 bucks for a box of two and they last up to 45 minutes). I was up at 2am with one hit, easily took it down with cold and Red Bull and slept the rest of the night.

Flying home wasn't quite as easy and I got nailed pretty hard on descent. Just having the Red Bull wasn't very helpful and I was practically in tears on the way down to baggage claim...but even more strangely, it went away within about 15 minutes...MUCH shorter than the norm. Hard to say if it was the Red Bull that did it or something else.

I would postpone my vacation unless you've got your stockpile of meds to bring along.
