Ok I have to talk about something....My headaches....and I have a couple of questions too...so here goes....

Ok so I know that narcotics do NOT work for these headaches, I know that most of us agree that O2 is the best thing but here is something that I have found to help..

I get a CH nearly every single day, some days I actually go for a few weeks without them but that is very rare...yesterday I was at Epcot with my hubby, my 5 yr old son, 6 yr old niece, 10yr old niece, 3yr old nephew and sister and brother-in-law...we were having a awesome time even though my feet swore we were never going to sit down again LOL....anyway I could feel one of the headaches coming on and I took a 5mg Lortab and 800mg motrin...I know this is not something that usually works but sometimes, every now and again it does....and yesterday was one of those lucky days where it nipped the headache in the bud...I was able to finish the day and we even ended up staying in a nice hotel instead of driving home...so anyway my question is this....does anyone think that it might have worked because it is a low dose of pain med? I ask this because the 10mg lortab I have for my back injuries doesnt work yet the 5mg does....

If this approach works for you, that's the O.K. you need.

The issue is not that we "hate" pain meds but, that for the majority of CH, they are not effective and, most importantly, steady, long term use carries significant risks of side effects.

So, your body said, "Thanks!". Say "You're welcome!" and move on!

that statement right there is why I only take them when I absolutely need to...rebound headaches are almost as bad, not quite but almost.....Thanks Bob

I suspect it was the Motrin that aborted the hit. In the beginning, and oddly enough also at Epcot, I started chewing asprin like crazy when an attack came on. This was before I knew I had CHs. My friends thought I was crazy holding my eye, chewing asprin, and trying not to scream out loud. Eventually the asprin gave me a hole in my stomach also. And it stopped working. I'm glad your day wasn't ruined. I do miss Epcot. Sigh. Blessings. lance

Have you tried the Indomethacin test to make sure you don't have Hemicrania continua?  It can mimic CH pretty well but responds to anti-inflammatory drugs like the Indo and possibly Motrin.
