Looking for a New Neuro in Minnesota
Nov 29th, 2011 at 7:28pm

I am growing concerned that my current neuro isnt interested in going all the way for me.  His lack of phone calls in the last two days has demonstrated that.

Does anyone have a recomendation for Neuro in the metro area of Minnesota.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Eric

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; On-line screen to find a physician.

5. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

6. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Hi,
I use Rupert Exconde, Noran Neurological.  Burnsville.  He is great.  Knew right away what I had and what to do.

I have seen Dr Exconde and he is also my wifes Dr for her seizure disorder.  He is a very nice Dr.  I currently see one of his colleagues at Noran.  Dr Michael Sethna.  After a bit of a struggle through the bout I am pleased with my results.  I go to see him for a follow up tomorrow and logged in to print off the D3 info to share with him.  Dr Exconde's specialty is siezures and I really wanted to meet with a headache Dr.

My wife loves him and I am glad that he is working out for yoiu.  Burnsville would certainly be better than Lake St in MPLS for me but Dr Sethna does not travel this far south.

The biggest QUACK I would avoid is Dr Hubbard in Burnsville.  He is not a Noran Dr so you should be good.

Dr. Sethna has gone above and beyond trying to help me,  He listens VERY well and is open to trying anything.  But like any neuro that doesnt specialize in clusters alone,  sometimes (mostly because of this website) I feel like I am more in the know than he is.  I know that people like us are a severe minority and that is likely the cause.

Either way he takes the info I give him and again is willing to prescribe and try anything that he deems safe.  I would tottaly recomend at this point.

Additionally I have never met another sufferer locally.  If you have any questions or would be interested in coffee just drop me a line.

I most certainly appreciate the help.  I have reviewed that list many times prior.  I use Dr. Sethna.  (third on the list)  He based on my research is the best in the area.   One of the listed Dr's is only a PCP with no listed neurological background.  I am not really sure how he got on the list.

The first Dr on the list is about a 2 hour drive and very little information is avaulable about that Dr.

Thanks for the link however.

Dr Sethna is most certainly the best choice in Minnesota.
