Harbor Freight Regulator questions
Dec 13th, 2011 at 4:27pm

OK so I am unable to obtain a regulator from my oxygen supply company that flows at more than 15 LPM.

Harbor Freight has their Chicago Electric Oxygen Regulator on sale for $34.99 and I have one on hold to pick up tonight.

My question is this,  I am no stranger to using regulators for welding and cutting however this unit does not measure the flow in LPM only PSI outlet pressure.  So who has used welding regulators and what pressures do you tend to use to acheive the coveted 25 to 45 LPM of flow.

I know that this may take some fiddeling around to get the flow right for hyper ventilating but still wondered if anyone had some experience they wanted to share.

I am also having two more M tanks delivered tomorrow night, that should get me through the holiday weekends.

Thanks for the input folks.

I use this same regulator.  I think the answer I gave to this question a while back may have been wrong.  My tank was low (not sure if that made a difference) and I think I may have been looking at the wrong set of numbers on the gauge.  ( yeah, I'm brilliant, I know. )

Really, it doesn't matter what the gauge says.  I adjust mine to where it can keep up with my hyperventilation, without having to wait for the bag on my mask to refill.   I reduce the flow, once the pain is gone, and stay on it for a while longer to be sure it stays away.

Jeannie,

Thankyou for the input.  I have purchased the reg and will give it a whirl with the next visit from the beast.  Irregardless of what the calculated output should be in Liters per minute it certainly is capable of much more.  And for only $35.00 bucks it sure might be a life saver.

I have the O2optimask with the 3 litre bag and was sucking it dry very quickly durring the initial hyperventilation it hurts allot make it go away part of the treatment.

I called two different medical supply companies today, one of which supplies me with my o2 and neither of them have a regulator on hand that supplies a flow rate greater than 15 LPM.

Thanks again for your input and I will certainly post my results.

What Jeannie wrote is as accurate of an explanation as one can give. Wink

If you would feel more comfortable buying a regulator that reads "lpm", not a welding regulator, they are often custom made and will go up to 60 lpm.

PM me for recommended reputable supplier if interested.

Thanks Vegas,

I am going to give the affordable regulator a shot for a while and see how it works.  I am a pretty handy guy so finding the correct adjustments shouldnt be too difficult.

I am aware of the lifegas custom model that sells for about $190.00 bucks.  With all the prescriptions, vitamins, and neuro appointments lately that amount of money isnt super easy to come by.  I hope to purchase it in my off season after things calm down.  To be ready for next time around.

Thanks again for everyones input.  I will let you all know how it turns out.  So far I am about 38 hours PF.  I am sure I have just jinxed myself.  Smiley

Talk to you later.

Eric, I'm sure that reg will give you plenty of LPM power, our expert on that Marc is under the beasts guns right now. So up at the top area of this screen do a search on welding O2 or regs and you'll find more info.

Just a suggestion, but at $40 you might consider picking up a spare. Nothing like a faulty regulator when you need it most. I bought a regulator for $30 or so awhile back, but it started leaking after about 12 uses.
I just bought one for $100

I cant personally vouch for this site, but they look good. They have one of everything and the prices are fair.

Yet I don't think they carry Ingage Oxygen Regulators, which I think I'd buy if I was going to buy one today. Along with a demand valve. I get sticker shock when I see the prices for them, but if you asked me while I was in the middle of a CH if I'd pay $500 to kill it, and all the ones to come in half the time, I'd pay happily.

I'm the type to find the best deals on everything, but with regulators and O2 gear, I've learned to put my 'lowest price' hat down.

I think the 'cheaper' regulators use rubber seals, while the expensive ones use better materials like teflon. I think a warranty is a sign of quality, and I wouldn't buy O2 gear that isn't warrantied. Yet having a decent/cheaper spare/travel regulator is a great idea IMO.

Something to keep in mind when purchasing a regulator is the connection.

There are different connections required to fit to different size tanks.

I've had my "cheap" welder's regulator for about a year now.  It has been getting a lot of use and is still doing what I need it to do.
