Introducing myself

Married with 5 beautiful girls. Can't work living a disable pension. CH's for 13's years Cycle last an average of 7 - 10 weeks 1 cycle a year anywhere from Aug - Feb

The best book Iv read is The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook second edition you can find it on ebay the only thing I don't like about it is they don't say to drink more water.

My first attack came the same day after deep tissue massage this is why Im thinking metabolic waste and toxin build up must have some thing to do with CH along with dehydration and hormones.Just think about this if you'v have had a deep tissue massage how bad do you fell after them for a day or so this is because of the toxins being realist and it also means you where dehydrated, The next time you get a massage try drinking lots of water 1 week before and see how much difference this makes.

Im a left side CH suffer. I have SLS Short Leg Syndrome about 1cm difference very very bad sciatica never trouble for 18 years. Other parts of the body that are damaged, head is just of centre,L shoulder lower than R, LR shoulder reco's shaved the collar bones ,labral tears R 80% L 60%, unrepairable, wedge fracture at T4 & damage to L5,carpet tunnel LH, snapping scapula left shoulder, larynx is lower than it should be,thoracic outlet syndrome both sides, brachial plexus injury left side, Right knee needs be replaced. I think that is it.

If you get morning CH attacks this might help you, Before you get out of bed wrap a towel around your neck then get out of bed try and have it on for at least half and hour to an hour and try not to look down,

I know stress is some times a starting point for my CH cycle. Some time just before {seconds} I get a CH I get zapped across half the face into the side of the nose about half way up this triggers some thing in the nose that gives me a CH these only happen when Im awake. I also get the same zapping in the side of the neck that goes down under my armpit on my left side.

Other things that can trigger an attack are cold & hot winds, sleeping ,some foods, perfume, bush fires, sitting for to long {numb bum} , reading books & stretching my legs in bed & any thing above my head e.g changing a light blob even sweeping the floor.

Iv taken prescription drugs for the 2nd CH cycle just suffered and try to work out what works.Im not big on meds {fix's one thing damage an- other} But in say this if I had live closer to a specialist I would have. But when you live 10 hours away and have every little money( 5 kids )you just have to suck CH up the best you can.Iv tried a lot of things to many to list or remember, from mint leaves up the nose to tapping my shoulders pulling them back.

Along the way Iv learnt to NEVER EVER BLOW YOUR NOSE it make CH anger TRY SALT WATER IRRIGATION It has to be lukewarm I used rainwater but distilled water maybe better boil it and add cooking salt and as long as I can get to it quick it is stopping some of the pain or all of it. I use a 5ml surge and it takes about 5 of them to stop the pain or make it better some times it only 2-3. I lay on my back to put the water in the nose and I try to keep the water in the nose for 30sec at a time snort it down and spitting it out the rest comes back out the nose not a pretty site but it worked for me. Not sure how safe it is but.

What sometimes works for me is a pieces of foam.Foam size is 5-10cm hight x 20cm wide. Before I go to bed I give the sciatic in the side of the bum and lower back some deep heat I sleep on my left side with the foam under my hip {just worked this out in my last cycle use to use my arm } I can get 4-5 good hours sleep sometimes before an attack comes a long as soon as he does I get out of bed hit the floor on my left side with the foam under the hip & the head on a pillow that keeps my head & neck strait 3-5 min this sometimes stops the attack When Im out and get an attack I sit on the foam under my left bum cheek this works to but not as quick.

The only therapy that has worked on me is trigger point therapy (working on the neck muscles and upper back muscles) you need to drink lots of filleted water before & after the other pain is paying the money and I live 5 hour away from any one that does it now. Bowen therapy is very close to trigger point therapy the only trouble Iv found with Bowen therapy is there scared of doing the big neck muscles

This stopped my last cycle half way through it.

I was looking for something to clean out toxins from my lymph nodes, metabolic waste and glandes, I came across castor oil so I though I would give it ago. I covered my body in it and put a heat pack between my shoulder blades I left this on for 1 hour getting my kids to keep me supplied with a new hot pack when it went cold after this I  went to bed fully expecting to wake up 1-2 hours later with a attack but I didn't wake up for about 6 hours later I had a little attack but I never had to get out of bed this hasn't happen with me in my 13 years with CH, And to my amazement it stopped my cycle half way through cycle.(I only hope it works next time.) google castor oil and cluster headaches.

Please if you are thinking this might work for you to, Be careful and chat to your Dr first as Im not sure what affect it has with meds, and research all you can on castor oil, a man on no meds like me should be ok a women has to be very careful. It should not be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or during menstruation. Some peoples skin doesn't like castor oil so test a spot first.

So Hi to all this is my story. TAKE CARE & ALL THE BEST Les

I am new to the site so have no idea if I am posting in the right area.

I was diaganosed last summer (2011).  I am 27 and from Surrey in England.

I was sent to a neurologist after having bad bad headaches, the neurologist was an absolute idiot and made me feel stupid, but I have been taking pills and the headaches have calmed down of late.

I am glad to see there is a community on the internet for people with CH.

I might set up a CH group on Facebook if anyone is interested. - I have just seen there is already one so that is fantastic.

Anyway hope everyone is ok  Smiley

Welcome to the board Bears, yeah there are a couple of Facebook sites for CH'ers. Would suggest you also check out this site as it has some location specific advice for accessing decent care on your side of the pond:

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Then read this link, I'm a 33 year CH'er and since discovering oxygen beasty doesn't have a prayer. My aborts average 6-8 minutes using oxygen. That's 6-8 minutes from the start of an attack, to completely pain free. Worth a look see:

Start reading everything on this site, with CH, knowledge is your best ally. As you've already found, our condition is rare and the odds of finding a doc with an idea of how to treat it are slim. There are too many effective treatments out there to just hurt, we'll help you all we can.

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.
