Coffee Grounds
Feb 12th, 2012 at 3:07pm

Daily coffee drinker here with a challenge maybe others here share also.

I empty my coffee filter (metal) grounds into the trash can.  There is always remaining grounds still within the filter.  I rinse filter in kitchen sink to get it cleaned for next pot of coffee.  Kitchen sink now draining slowly.

With all of the coffee drinkers around here, thought I would inquire what coffee filter cleaning methods you guys do to prevent kitchen sink failure? Roll Eyes

Paper filter. Grounds and filter go into the compost.

My coffee maker has a gold metal cone filter.  I realize paper filters may be the easy answer.  But metal filters provide a better taste in my opinion.  So anybody with recommendations that use a metal filter?

get a second metal cone filter and use it as a "rinse filter".  take the one you use and rinse it off in a pitcher full of water, then pour the water from the pitcher through the "rinse filter".  basicaly, you are just catching the coffee grounds before they make it to your sink.  when the second filter is full, empty it in the trash.

before i thought of this trick i used to plunge my sink about once a month.

A couple of tablespoons of baking soda followed by about a pint of apple cider vinegar works well to unstop sinks.  It isn't as destructive as chemical drain cleaners.

Way to go!
Also, according to Dr. Oz, the paper filters filter some kind of oil out of the coffee that raises your blood pressure, that metal filters don't.

i was raised by a cup of coffee.

i dont really see it slowing my kidneys down though... makes me p!$$ like a racehorse.

when my kidneys failed due to rhabdomyolysis, my doctors gave me coffee as soon as i started urinating again.

and thats not even getting into the abortive therapy of caffiene...

Coffee grounds are great for plants, flowers, vegetables (an organic mulch so to speak).  I take a cup of water with me out to the garden and rinse out the coffee grounds under the trees/flowers/whatever.  Most Starbucks have free old coffee grounds in bags for just such purpose (if not, you can ask them to keep them for you -- but any CHer would never need MORE coffee grounds).  And I like knowing my tomatoes are caffeinated, just in case they have CH too.

And P.S. try to avoid the paper filters.  The only possible way they could be that white is if there's some bleaching involved.  Not that I'm Miss Holistic given the amount of CH drugs I ingest, but whenever possible I try to avoid trace harsh chemicals.  Gold filter is the way to go.

Actually, no.  The only air I'm breathing these days comes out of an oxygen tank.   Cheesy
