What have U tried before bed??
Mar 5th, 2012 at 7:31am

So, I was laying here being thankful that I just woke up from a third night of sleep in a row without a cluster!
See, when I get in bed at night, I tend to stress out &/or give myself anxiety because I am so damn afraid to fall asleep! For this reason, I have tried several preventative methods on myself... since doctors don't really know enough, care enough, or believe the pain level.. I have become my own guinea pig.
For the past few nights I have tried something and so far- no CHs!
1 Tylenol 500 Rapid Release
2 Ibuprophen 200 liquid capsules
2 tsp Children's Benadryl liquid

I hope this works for others. And the way I look at it is this... it may not work every time, but if it let's me have a few peaceful nights in a row, it can't be that bad!!   Tongue

My "uneducated" guess is the Benadryl is probably your biggest ally in that regimen. Many have reported preventative effects of various cold medicines.

If you have not tried melatonin as a "night time" prevent, you may want to check it out. It's an OTC sleep aid, generally found at Health Food and Vitamin Stores. Many have found they can avoid the night time wake-up-hits using this. Start with 9 mg about 30 minutes before bedtime. You may have to adjust your dosing with some going as high as 18 mg to get relief.

Great that you're getting some sleep, it's amazing what one, uninterrupted nights sleep can do to your outlook on life! Smiley

What you have tried wouldn't help me in the least, (spit-wads on a battleship I liken it to) but I'm happy if it helped you.

Besides Melatonin, which HAS helped me, I have found that when I haven't slept for nights, if I take a Triptan called Amerge about an hour before I go to bed, it will last all night so I can get much needed sleep.  Amerge is an abortive, but because it is in pill form it takes farrrrr too long to get in to the system to abort a headache.  Taken as a preventative however, it is wonderful as it gives me at least 8 hrs. as it is that long lasting.  DO NOT take it if you are also using another Triptan such as Imitrex though.

Sleeping in a recliner, when in cycle, usually stopped at least one hit for me per night.
