ECH change in cycle length
Mar 8th, 2012 at 7:01am

For the last 12 yrs or so i have had a bout every 12-18mths approx lasting a maximum of 37days. Attacks ramp up slowly for the first week, are the worst during wks 2 and 3 and then start to tail off, as soon as i get 1 or 2 pain free days i know it's almost over. However, this time i am 10wks into a bout which started the same as usual but although the attacks lessened around wk5 (as usual) they haven't stopped. If anything they seem to be stopping and starting i'm having pain free periods of up to 6 days (which is lovely) but then i get hit again. I've also been out drinking on more than one occasion and have suffered absolutely no ill effects from this, no attacks at the time and no attacks for several days after. WTF is going on??

It's the unpredictability of the Beast. We want to tame it so we can know when and how we will be called upon to fight back, but seldom does it turn out that way. When and where were you diagnosed? What prevents and abortives do you use? It's certainly time for a reeval if not for more aggressive front line action. Blessings. lance

Well, Lance is on target, of course, but he left out: God has a sense of humor. <bg>

Sadly, I ususally don't get it! Grin

Sadly it's what they said. The first 20 years of my CH you could set the atomic calendar by the beginnings and ends of my cycles, they were so predicatable. Hit my 40's and they went all over the place. 2 year remissions, 8 month cycles, it's just the beasts nature to morph. As Lance mentioned, do give us a detailed account of your treatment regimen, we may be able to collectively give you some ideas to run past your doc. Wishing you peace and some pain free time soon.

Thanks for all your replies, i just use o2 and Imigran shots, at this point i'm not prepared to consider preventative meds. I don't like to put drugs etc into my system unless it's 100% necessary, and having heard about the side effects etc of the other options i'll be steering clear of those as long as i possibly can!

You also might want to explore our sister site:

clusterbusters.com

They explore some "optional" treatments, some legal some not, to deal with CH. Their success rate is pretty phenomenal. Then visit the meds section of this board and read the post "123 pain free days and I think I know why" A daily regimen of Vitamin D-3, zinc, calcium citrate, magnesium and fish oil. It's cheap, good for you even without CH, and is also providing a lot of relief for CH'ers. Worth a read.
