6 doses.... Really?
Mar 23rd, 2012 at 10:24pm

Well today I seen my family physician. I'm on day three of my ch's. They usually last two weeks. I had to beg him for the imitrex spray. He gave me a script for 6 doses refillable after a month. Whole lot of good that will do. I swear if I hear him refer to them as migraines again I'm going to lose my mind. Ohhh on the bright side my neurologist can get me in for a appt. in 6 WEEKS!!!! FML

Take a look at this link, oxygen has all but eliminated my use of trex. On or off cycle there's always at least 1 E-Tank in my garage "just in case!"

If your cycles only last two weeks, talk to your GP about a 2 week prednisone taper. For many, prednisone will block the attacks completely. It's not a med you can take long term as it's harsh on the body. Many of us use it as a transitional med while we wait for our longer term prevents to kick in. If you can get him to call you in a prescription, start at 80 mg a day, work down to zero over a 2 week period, might get you through this cycle. Then keep your neuro appointment, so you can get set up for the next cycle.

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.

Another strong advocate for using oxygen here. Using a non-rebreather mask and 25lpm flow rate I can kill off my CHs in about 5 minutes, side effect free and as many times a day as I need to.

Joe's idea about using prednisione for a 2 week taper should be a good option for you as for other preventives it'll take almost the two weeks to get to an effective dose.

What you could also do is to look at the use of vitamin D (Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register) which is proving to be remarkably effective for many. You could start this say a month before your next cycle is likely to start (easier if they start at the same time each year) or even use it year round.

And do stock up for the next cycle, having supplies ready for when you might need them. It makes a huge difference compared to scrambling around when the beast is dealing out CHs.

Six doses is great, isn't it? Mike's got the right info there. As does Joe. Stock up even when you don't need it, especially if you're currently getting only a two week cycle. That's pretty good, but beware the beast's changeable nature! It likes to catch you when you least expect it, so be prepared. Blessings. lance
