RELAY 4 LIFE...
Mar 27th, 2012 at 10:17am

My Dearest CH Family & Friends;

As you know, the fight against cancer goes on and I know we’re going to win this thing.  Nearly every one I know can say that they have a friend or relative that has battled this terrible disease.

Being a 28 year Breast Cancer Survivor, I have participated in our local Relay for Life since its’ beginning, with the exception of 2011. This past year was very hard on me. I sat in the waiting room at Carle Hospital on December 22, 2010 as my 34yr old niece underwent Breast Cancer Surgery; all the time I was Praying not only for my niece, but also for a very close friend of mine, Karen Darr. Karen lost her battle with cancer on May 12, 2011.

With so many family and friends either having gone through the battle, fighting the battle or having lost the battle, I feel that I must continue to raise money for this worthwhile cause. I can’t think of a better way to raise money for the fight against this dreadful disease than participating in our local Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is a team event that Celebrates Cancer Survivors, gives Hope to Cancer Fighters, honors those that have lost the battle, and raises funds for the American Cancer Society Research, Education, Prevention, Advocacy and Patients Services. It’s a outdoor overnight fundraising event where teams take turns walking or running around a track.

My Team will have several people on it, of which 4 of us are Cancer Survivors, and we will be joined by hundreds of others on June 9 & 10, 2012 at the Centennial High School Track. Millions of people nationwide take part in Relay for Life events around the country. Relay for Life raises over 40% of the funding for the American Cancer Society.

The Relay starts off with a Survivor’s walk, where Cancer Survivors such as myself, walk the initial lap, symbolizing the courage that Survivors and their families display and sustain in their lives.

Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated..

You can support the fight by making a tax-deductible contribution (your gift will stay local). This task can be accomplished either by filling out the enclosed form and mailing your donation back to me, or going on line and making a donation directly to our team by credit card.

Additionally, you may purchase a Luminary Candle(s) to honor someone fighting cancer or in remembrance of someone who has lost their battle with cancer, for a donation of $10 each. During the event, there’s a Luminary Ceremony where candles or placed in bags with the name of the person you are honoring or remembering and lit after dark.

Please remember, NO AMOUNT IS TOO LITTLE and NO AMOUNT IS TO LARGE.

Peace & Blessings
                                   …

Ruthie,

I would love to support you in this thing, but I have a very close friend in my church (I've shared her blog site, Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register with you) who I will be supporting this year.  Keep up what you are doing though!  I hope you are able to celebrate being a 128 year surviver!

You are loved!

Jerry
