Not good news but getting better
Jul 26th, 2012 at 8:52pm

I found out July 10 that I have Lung Cancer & it has spread to my hip & it was only that my hip was sore that I went & got checked out, unfortunately this form of cancer is terminal.

This post is not a feel sorry for Barry one its simply here to inform so that if I stop posting one day you will all know why.

I started the radiotherapy Monday this week & that will go every day for all this week & the next, I have had an appointment with the chemotherapy specialist & start that treatment August 2.

The radiotherapy is being used to try & reduce the size of the tumour on my hip & appears to be doing some good; I am not as sore & have a bit more mobility that should improve in the next few weeks.

The chemo goes for 12 weeks & consists of 4 sessions by 3 weeks; the first week is a 3 hour intravenous drip, the next is  7 days later for 1 hour & the next week is a rest week & so on for the 12 weeks, at the end of those 12 weeks they will do scans again to see what effect this has had.

The specialists are not giving me any false hope or aspirations they are just putting it the way it is & what statistics tell them; if the radiation & chemo both fail the stats say I may have 9 months or there about, on the other hand if these things work & my body responds well to the treatment then it could be years (?) how many is in the lap of the gods & my determination to survive, I’m punting on option 2.

Cheers
Barry

As a clusterhead this is what I DO know. You will fight this to the end. I am so sorry to hear that Barry. As a believer in the Christian faith, I will be praying to God that the chemo and radiation treatments are gentle on you and that your body responds to the treatment. Thanks for sharing this with us and allowing us to be a part of this journey. Hopefully, we can be a support for you as well. Smiley

You've done a lot of good here over the years, Barry.  Remember that.  We will.  Peoples' lives are better because you are here.

So lean on us in the months ahead if you need to.  We'll be here to provide an ear, even if we're a world away.

All the best, my friend.

Barry,

I'm so sorry to hear this news... Smiley But I also know that us clusterheads are determined bunch, so that will help you out now with this new challenge.

I'm also praying kind, so before I begun to type this post, I prayed for you. I prayed that the treatments will work and that you will beat the statistics and have a lot of great time ahead of you.

All the best,
Sanna

Personally I've long been a supporter of Saint Stout who's known to cure coughs, colds, scabby holes, arched feet, moles on the back and things penicillin won't fix.

I have it on good authority he once saved a mere mortal from a Swan-induced hangover. (Hence his beatification.)

General concensus is that the home-fired  shrines to St Stout are not simply more effective but far more romantic into the bargain but she'd be the judge of that.

My next shout,

B.

On the positive side your Karma account is MASSIVE!!!

Seriously though, I'm sorry life has given you another thing to deal with.  Cancer just sucks.  Good luck with the treatments. I hope they do some good.  Keep us posted and I'll be saying some prayers for you.

Barry, I have no words of wisdom, just prayers from someone who really doesn't know you but cares anyway! I had heard once, that praying is the MOST we can do for someone.  I'm going to do the most I can for you my distant and supportive friend.  Will be looking forward to your posts Wink

Barry, I just read this and am at a total loss for words. All I can do is send positive vibes, and offer a shoulder or an ear should you ever need one.
Best thing I can say is this: I used to think that I have CH  because eventually something would come along in life that I would not have been able to deal with, cope or make it through the ordeal.
Unfortunately, I wasn't wrong. I've been through some rough weather, but know how to fight with everything I've got to keep together everything I am.

With that said Barry, you are a FIGHTER, and having CH has taught you how to fight, no matter how exhausting it may be, or how futile it may seem at times. But keep faith and hope, and FIGHT!!!

I'm pulling for you, and also look forward to more postings from you for years to come.

Peace & FUTURE,
Carl D

Well, if Brians post didn't make you laugh I don't know what will Barry.  ALSO...Dennis' remark about your karma account is right on.  We always talk about karma being a bitch in the negative, but in this casekarma can and will be a positive force to be reckoned with.  I have a really good feeling that you're going to be around for a good many years to come.   Kiss
