Sad Day at Henderson Farms...
Aug 9th, 2012 at 11:23am

The Rainbow Bridge has been crossed once again. Our Pit/Boxer died early this morning and left a void in our lives.

He's the one (some of you old timers might remember) that was put in a trash bag in a dumpster in FL and rescued by one of our people here who posted a picture of th emom and pups. My grandson saw the pics and told me "Granny I want that one!"

After a lot of red tape, (Granny aims to please) we adopted Homer and flew him to Shreveport when he was 8 weeks old (Caleb was 3 at the time). He and Caleb have been inseperable since that time (almost 7 years) .

We're all pretty upset about this, but he'd been sick and stove up so now he's not in pain and he died peacefully. He got up this morning and came over to where I was working on the computer and put his head in my lap. I stopped and loved on him a few minutes and then he walked in the utility room and layed down and quit breathing.

Guess I just had to get that out in between conforting Caleb and crying.. It's just hard to lose a "family" member like this.

I'm sorry!  Isn't it amazing how animals become such a part of our lives?  They become almost human to us, and in most cases are more faithful to us than are humans.

It's always so sad when this happens as a void opens in our lives from the impact they make.

How very true.

Barb I'm sorry for your loss; it reminds me of my old mate, a border collie/irish wolf hound cross, he was first dog we had when we got married, we had him for 16 years & like Homer he came to me one lunch time, got a great pat & simply walked over to his bed & passed away, it broke my heart but also left me with some of the best memories I still cherish.

Cheers
Barry

well, I guess things work out. We were in Texarkana Saturday and went by Pet Smart and they were having a "Puppy Adoption" thingy going on. Nothing would do except we go in and "look".

there was this boxer/mix that Caleb spotted and we ended up bringing Miss Daisy home with us. she's four months old with feet the size of China and has not moved from Caleb's side since he spotted her. He's told her all about HOmer and she's listened to everything.

Caleb told me yesterday, "Granny, I won't ever forget Homer, but I love Daisy too." Of course I had tears come up and told him that HOmer wouldn't want him to be alone and that he'd like Miss Daisy and was glad he had her.

I know this won't be the only dog he looses, but it's just hard to explain to a 10 year old.. Hopefully Daisy will fill a void. And if she grows to her feet... hope we can afford the dog food.. Smiley
