To the playoffs
Oct 4th, 2012 at 6:05am

When I was a kid in the 60's, it was an era growing up with baseball and baseball legends.  There were many greats from the past, but the 60's had some fantastic players now in the Hall of Fame.  Baseball was baseball.  A time when the Triple Crown was won back-to-back with Frank Robinson and Carl Yastrzemski.  That made headlines and looking back to who's done it before you could read names like Ty Cobb, Roger Hornsby, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gerhig, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle.

Since that time and the Yaz 45 years ago it never happened again, until now.  As we come to the playoffs, I'd like to stop and lend congratulations to Miguel Cabrera for his Triple Crown feat, the first champion as a third baseman. I hope he's the inspiration to kids that I had in my time.

On to the playoffs this weekend.

Glad to see another who enjoys this game...yes you grew up in an era with some mighty great ballplayers (me too  Smiley Smiley Smiley) i will assume you were a tiger fan growing up...now they had some very good players in the day...i was fortunate enough to meet a few of them when i was a kid...the one that i will never forget was Al Kaline a true gentleman and a great player...i don't keep up with the game that much anymore, but when i was young (i lived for the game)

In regards of M.C...you knew he was special even as a rookie...if i recall right,he was with the Marlins when i first saw him...to be honest,i did not want to see him get the triple crown...not sure if it's because i did not want to see a modern day trillionaire (sp) athlete do it or the fact that,i don't like men that beat women...yes i know,he's sober now...still no excuse in my book...other than that,he is a very good ballplayer in a water-down league (both leagues)...i bet he would not have done it in our days growing up...that's when a ballplayer was a ballplayer and pitchers would go the distance...i guess i'm starting to get and sound old  Grin Grin Grin...does this ring a bell with anyone "in my days"  Grin Grin Grin.....Lenny

I didn't want to see the it done with any steroid-stats.  In fact Miguel's numbers match ol' Yaz's figures pretty closely again.

Yeah, Kaline was a steady pro as a person, too.  Batting champ at age 21, many Gold Gloves, 3000 hits, and only attained $100,000/year once at the end of his career.

It was a tough go besting Chicago this year.  Tigers will be up the coast from you playing the young and motivated Oakland A's, who the news says could look like the '69 Mets.  Still making comparisons to "back in my day".   Wink

We in so.cal and no.cal don't really like one another...but i must admit,i was pulling for the A's

i am afraid that you might be correct,in regard of the 69 mets...since i like you,i will be pulling for the tigers to go all the way...as long as M.C. has an avg. of 125 throughout the playoffs and world series)  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley.....Lenny
