Neither, since I apparently only have migraine or a misdiagnosis.

I think I'm kinda done with this whole concept and this thread. It was intriguing at first - now it's just tiresome.

33 years ago when I was 11 years old, after surviving a head trauma, my CH's began.  Of course I was misdiagnosed throughout my entire life until I self-diagnosed myself from the Cluster Quiz on this website back in 1999 and then confirmed by several headache specialists.

Last year when I was in a cycle from Hell, I asked my mother what she recalls about any neurological findings when I was a kid back in the 1980's as it related to my CH's.  She stated there were reports about me that stated I had abnormal dopamine levels.  Unfortunately I no longer have those test results nor reports and do not remember who conducted those testings.

I inquired with my neurologist last year about dopamine testing as it relates to CH's.  He told me it was a very sophisticated test and since I had no health insurance, I never followed through.

However, there is a correlation between dopamine levels and the hypothalamus.  Magnesium deficiency can also cause decreased levels of dopamine.  Whether or not dopamine or magnesium is the cause of CH's is obviously to be determined.  I find it unlikely such a worldwide mass study of Ch'ers will ever result.

My suggestion if a CH'er were to be a "guinea pig" is to have the testing focus on dopamine and also magnesium levels.

Further to note, in my opinion, this thread has definitely gotten way off track with theories of watching porn, masterbation, etc causing CH's.

Just my 2 cents. Wink

Las Vegas - that dopamine defiency is very interesting, but I don't understand why you think this topic has gotten out of hand as far as the subject.  Dopamine receptors being damaged from porn use is a huge emerging theory...

Zg-  how do you mean?  I expected others to join with me and post whether or not this worked.  It has definitely ended my cycle.

There have definitely been people saying that they do not masturbate and still get clusters bad.  On both this site and Clusterbusters.  The biggest question I have is- Why are you pressing on with this while completely ignoring these responses?

I myself have definitely gone much much longer than 5 days without masturbating and had absoloutly no increase or decrease in clusters.

Clusters come and go.  If you didn't masturbate for a full year and had them go away, this thread might make sense...And I doubt anyone is going to take this seriously until a much much longer "testing period" happens for you.  You can keep arguing with people about why you are right, with absoloutely no evidence to back it up, or you could do your test and report back after a much longer amount of time.  Your first post on this was less than 2 weeks ago.  If you ask long time sufferers if they have amounts of time where things got better for some reason for different amounts of time the answer is almost always yes.  You can find all sorts of people who claim they figured out their cluster cure by mangosteen, jumping jacks, sex, masturbation, the list goes on and on.  Eventually it seems like 90% of those folks come back and say "I guess I was just having a lucky month/week/day."

All questions are worth asking, but I would say unless you have some sort of actual concrete evidence of some sort of long term change happening, it's probably not doing much good to just beat a subject to death.  (no pun intended)

Your idea that what happens in your brain when you watch porn is that dopamine is released is true, but very simplistic and not complete.   A hell of a lot more happens in your brain than just this one hormone being increased.  One big hole in the "too much dopamine" idea is that routinely people have found that cocaine IS effective for many peoples clusters.  Talk about dopamine overload.  LSD boosts dopamine too, and many people have found it to get rid of clusters for months at a time.

Another thing to do research on--there is actually a condition called "dopamine syndrome"  It has nothing to do with masturbation or cluster headaches.

Are you kidding me...

1 person.  1 person has stepped up to the mic and told us this.  Out of almost 2000 people.  And I grilled him for questions.  How the Is that ignoring.

Seriously, cluster headaches come and go, my dopamine theory has holes in it (I'm no scientist, Jack) and people find relief through LSD.

So what you're saying is, you have NO IDEA what the cause of clusters are.  Look brother, this worked FOR ME.  I've gone 3 months without masturbating in the past and I didn't notice that I didn't get my season cluster.  6 months after that, my girlfriend at the time broke up.  I started looking at porn a lot more and having CH A LOT more.  I never made the connection before, but based on that past experience is where I came up with this theory.

AND IT WORKED.  Don't stimulate dopamine for 10 days.  I don't care if it's porn, cocaine, gambling, killing people DON'T STIMULATE DOPAMINE.

I started binging on porn after my "relapse", shadows came back.  There's a correlation here.

EDIT:  this entire topic talks about sex and pornography, and you all lost your minds over 3 F word's?  Are we adults?

You must be joking…………..
(Or not?)
Please  save your breath,
and time….

To the new CH.com residents…..
This website is offering real knowledge, Real experience,
Be it the Anti-Inflammatory Regimen, or Oxygen treatment
Or the busting treatment…….
Which we all know can help to reduce the suffering (distinctively)
I do not suggest ignoring new ideas, but some sort of common sense
Is required…. Some sort of self criticism…..
BTW
My sons are reading this website….  One is 15 the other is 11, it’s the way
they learn how to support me…..
I humbly ask to think before posting…… before abusing the language in
the name of a good deed…..
And back to my obscurely……….

Since the moderators cannot stop elliott from using all the vulgar language he chooses to use, I would simply encourage all y'all to stop engaging him.

After you personally thank him for chasing your kids off this site.

I'm not going to decide what words people can and can't use.  If someone wants to use vulgar language... that's on them.  Most people try to be respectful to the rest of the community... some don't care.

If you don't like the way someone is typing, use the "ignore" button.  If you don't want to do that, keep in mind the type of person you are dealing with when you interact with them and don't be surprised when they drop an "F" bomb.

If that type of language is directed towards someone, that is a completely different story.

Hmmm...sounds familiar...I'll SECOND that emotion...just give me a minute to remove the blue cheese stuffed up my nose (my Iti Grands taught me that a good creamy Gorgonzola don't cure caca, but is  soothing to the soul...green over blue), the cayenne pepper up the other nostril (THE elemental sinusbuster...doncha know?), the tin foil hat off my head, the vinegar shot off the table, the head band off my head, the finger off my carotid, the arterial ligation delayed, the accupuncture needles out of my back,  the chiro off my spine, go vegan WITH coffee enemas (I prefer it black...cream leaves a ring),  the porn site shut down, AND the hand out of my pants......

If you REALLY want a CURE...lissen to me: Peewee Herman's Playhouse!!! I got hit once...watched a Peewee marathon...and 90 minutes later the hit was GONE! Works EVERY time..just keep Peewee out of theaters and guar-an-dam-teed....

So anyway...

UPDATE:  After my  "relapse" last week, I've gone on a steady diet of doing it every day (binging, is what they call it in the reboot community).  Every day except Sunday.  The shadows have been fleeting, but noticeable, whereas before I started binging they were gone completely.

Sunday morning, I want to say, someone I contacted on a Cluster Headache Support Page on Facebook responded to my message.  He said it made sense and would be well on his way to undertake the task.  He is episodic and is in the middle of a cycle right now.  Will contact him today and see what's up with that.
