wht would you do?

Trying hard to get away from some subjects here in the "GENERAL BOARD" that should probably be elsewhere....   Roll Eyes

The Power Ball is up to 1/2 a billion dollars as I type this. If you won... and after you spoke to a lawyer, tax expert, accountant..etc.  what would YOU do with this money?

I have 7 children.  Assuring them they'd never have to worry about their health, their living conditions, or going hungry (with trusts)
I'd give a sizable sum to an abused shelter for women, another sizable to an organization in my town for help with unplanned pregnancies who give alternatives to abortions and a whole lot to 18 yr. olds who "age out" of the system and have no one,  and no where to go.  Maybe set up a trust fund for them to g to college as well as a communal home while they're going to college.

o.k. how about you.  What woud you do???  Wink

If I ever get out of here,
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity.
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get out of here.

I've spent a portion of my day fantasizing about this!  Brew bought $10 worth and I consider it "entertainment cost" - I get to daydream about winning.

I can think of a bunch of mortgages I would pay off, some college educations paid off, buy a couple of houses with rooms or buildings for fully stocked studios: Western Montana, San Diego, Kentucky . . . Couple of new cars, no more debt, hmmmmmm

I'd give a huge chunk of change to Clusterbusters as well as my local little league and local art organizations.

I think I might even medicate myself into oblivion in order to get on a plane and travel Italy for awhile.

That probably didn't make a dent in the first 5 million . . . .

My only caveat to all this would be that my donations would remain anonymous.  Rich I can handle; Famous, I don't want.

Seriously? BOL-148 phase II trials would be fully funded and it would be on the fast track to becoming widely available.

There aren't any laws against operating a not-for-profit drug company that only manufactures one thing, are there?

If you insist...

Pay off the mortgage, fully find college for the kids, build our cottage up north, take my family on a month long vacation, buy Jesse a new truck, octopus lift and whatever tools he needs to work on his own, and then the rest will go to MAPS, the American Lung Association, BCRFA, The Salvation Army, St. Jude, and then I'll establish a whole shit load of scholarships for disadvantaged mothers so they can attend college/tech/start their own business that also includes $$ to pay for childcare while they attend.  BUT, it won't happen because we don't play the lottery.

oooh...I love all of what you said.  I think the BOLS funding would cost about 100,000 just to start.  Am  correct?

I LOVE this idea.  Jim is an expert in non-profits.  He can head up the one in kentucky.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. From where it is right now to having it legally ready to produce (NOT ready to distribute, which would involve the additional costs of production like a lab, quality control, distribution, security, administrative, and marketing), we're still talking in the neighborhood of $10-20 million.

The cash out value is somewhere around $400 million. Cut that in half because there were 2 winners. That doesn't leave much for each winner. But, what the heck, it's free money so I'd take it.
Maybe I'd take the hotrod to Maaco for new paint instead of doing it myself. And I was looking at my shoes the other day. They look kinda ratty. Maybe I'd get some new laces to dress them up a bit.  Roll Eyes

I cant tell you. If I did win and I did them it would incriminate me and would substantiate premeditation. Just sayin.

Too old to buy an island. I'd head for a ridiculously expensive hotel somewhere and find a scary lawyer. Anything to hide out for a time.

Lots of charities, CH included, friends and some happy relatives would benefit now, not after I'm dead.

I sure wouldn't waste time dealing with people or things that I let bug me today. That would be very nice.

I'd be out of everyone's hair traveling around most of the time.

Let me see.  If I won $500+ million, after taxes I might end up with about half.  After talking to and hiring a good lawyer and financial tax person,  I would

Set up blind trust account of 1 million for each of my two children and each of my three grandchildren, keeping the trust open to include any future grandchildren not yet born.

After that, I love my house, but it needs major upgrades.  Remodel home.  Then, purchase another beach front property where children and grandchildren can enjoy.

Travel anywhere in the world that I haven't been.

Finally, whatever money left goes to the education of my grandchildren.

Now that you mentioned traveling Sandy, id like to add something to my previous post.  Id spend at least 2 months travelling around Germany seeing everythi g and tracing my roots, exploring the town my father grew up in, and then id spend another month in Ireland.   I dont know if it helps or hurts to dream like this.  Hmmm.
