Work with your doctor. I haven't taken it since the early 80's and never went above 240 a day. I know it is a med you are supposed to go off slowly. Sorry, that's the limit of my know how! Wink

Joe's given the best essentials, work with your doctor and taper gradually.  Important reason being, as a cluster sufferer, we may use verapamil for prevention in dosages high enough to effect alternate metabolism changes.  Sudden changes are definitely not good.  A system can adapt to changes if it is slowly introduced or withdrawn on a smooth and comfortable timeline.

Involuntary systems operate with ongoing routine and it's good to give a learning curve for any changes.  It's not bad with very gradual changes and there is no importance to withdraw quickly.  Be fair with your system and give it time, it adjusted to accept the effects of verapamil and will need time to adjust back again, make it smooth.  It wants to operate with routine and can get comfortable with a different routine, no need to gamble with any unpredictable responses to sudden changes.

You may become aware of slight heart rhythm changes here and there when gradually withdrawing while it's finding and making adjustments to metabolism differences that are within it's limits to make, the more gradual the better.  There are guidelines such as about 120mg/week, 80 every four days or 40 every other day, but each of us are different and there is no need to be hasty.

Work with your doctor, he may know more intricacies of your system better than general guidelines.

Plenty of archived info on this subject, simply use your search button and type in "Verapamil", "Verapamil dosage", etc to learn what many of us successfully reported with Verapamil tapers when ending a cycle.

As for your heart...increasing dosages is usually the heart concern especially above 480mg daily, down is not commonly known to create heart problems, but like others suggested...talk with your doctor.  Do read the threads on this subject though as you may need to educate your doctor.

Good Luck! Wink

I just finished tapering from 360 a day over three weeks. It really doesn't have any noticeable withdrawal. The only thing that popped up, but may be something else, is I tend to get a minor throbbing on the left side of my head if I run too long or walk to quickly for too long.

My doc was worried about a spike in Blood Pressure as I tapered, so he had me taking 2x daily readings of BP.  All went well thankfully.
