Gabapentin

So far, with the new neuro, my regimen is: Transitional med = methylprednisolone dosepak. Abortives = Oxygen, energy drinks, and Imitrex inj. Prevents = lithium 600 mg, to be titrated up to 900 if necessary, and added gabapentin 300 mg per night for sleep.

Results so far? Got 3 PF mornings from the pred taper, but now back to the same beast. So far, lithium hasn't prevented but I'm not at the max dose yet.

The one that really surprised me is the gabapentin. When he wrote for it, I shrugged it off as one of those desperate meds doctors will try. Well, after 10 days of it, I'm somewhat impressed. It has had no effect on my clusters that I'm aware of, nor has it allowed me to fall asleep easier.

What is DOES do for me, however, is smooth out this bumpy ride. I'm not sure how to explain this well, but after taking the gabapentin for a few days, I've just been a lot more calm and mellow. I even WILLINGLY stepped in to help a really irate customer at work, yet I wasn't nervous at all. I think this med is helping me ride out the ups and downs attendant to having CH.

Anyone else had experience with this drug?

YOur description of the effects of Gap. is textbook.

Not a standard Cluster med but assume your doc has used it just for the benefits you appreciate. No concerns at your dosing.
