They're Back After 8 Years
Jan 31st, 2013 at 7:28pm

After 8 years free of these, they're back.  I don't even know what to say.  It's amazing how the pain of these can be forgotten and completely devastating when they return.  I seem to have lost all of my mental mechanisms for getting through them.  I feel like I'm having a mental breakdown.  Within 2 weeks, I'm missing time with my family, days at work.  I'm back using the verapamil, zomig and imitrex injections.  The zomig and injections are stopping the immediate attack, but not stopping the next one from coming.  In the past 24 hours, they have been nonstop, one attack to the next.  The night before, one zomig work for the whole night.  Last night and throughout the early morning hours, I took 2 zomigs and one injection and still couldn't go to work today with no sleep and the next attack looming over me.  I know there's only so much medicine can help, I just wish I could find some understanding that I'm not well right now.

Another right coaster, yay! There's so few of us around here.

First off, follow this link  to the medications section of this board and read the post  Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

It’s a vitamin/mineral/fish oil supplement, all over the counter stuff, that’s providing a lot of relief for people who have tried it, it’s healthy for you even without CH! I've gone pain free for 3 years using this regimen, please check it out and give it a shot.

Oxygen should be your first line abortive. Breathing pure 02 will abort an attack for me in less then 10 minutes, that’s completely pain free. Read this link as it must be used correctly or it will not work

This link will show you how to get set up with welding oxygen:

Well you're back where people totally understand what it's like to have CHs as we get them ourselves.

You're already up to speed with a preventive and abortive, so well done on that.

As Joe mentioned, do try the vitamin D3 approach, it's getting great results for a lot of us, so hopefully it can help you too.

Also something which wasn't around 8 years ago is using energy drinks, like Red Bull or Monster (anything with caffeine and taurine). Drink one of these rapidly at the start of a CH and it can help cut down the pain level and duration of the CH.

Do keep reading and you'll learn more stuff.

What they said. Also before bedtime, try Melatonin (I take 10mg up to 20mg depending on how bad the CH is). It helps with the sleep at night and gets you thru the REM sleep where the CH hits (about 90 minutes after you go to sleep). It may take a while to start working, but stick with it .. it's been a lifesaver for me, but took a week or so to begin working.

And DO get on the O2 and Vit D3. And the Red Bull (or energy drink). Lordy, I keep them in my car, purse and handy in the house. They've aborted more CH's than I can count.

In the last 8 years there's been a lot of new things added to our regimine.. READ and then read some more on this site. And if you have questions ASK.. we're here to help.

Hope this is a short one and you get relief soon.. Keep us informed.  Kiss

I just came out of my 3rd cycle in my lifetime. My new neurologist gave me verapimil, a prednisone taper and the injections. After day 4 of the taper I was cluster free thank the good lord. Try getting the prednisone taper it might work for you as well. I feel your pain.
