Hey all. Pfunk here. I have been MIA since Nov 2011. A lot has happened in my life since that time. The wife gave birth to our second son, Cole Mason Cimino. I quit my stress filled job as a WalMart manager and started driving a forklift at a Bosch autoprts plant for more money and less stress. The other thing that happened is, rightabout the time it felt like things were going great, te BEAST came back 2 weeks ago. But my head is high, my family is beautiful!!! Anyway, when I went to fill my trex shots he other day, the pharmacist said that most companies wee not making it any more. Plus the one one they did get it from gave it to me in those one-piece pens which make it impossible split the doses. Has anyone else had these issues? TY

I think that Sumavel Dose Pro is the same thing (sumatriptan) as Imatrex.  You can't split the dose, but you can get the pens.  If you have prescription insurance, you can get them for $15 each and don't have to search for them.

FYI, I'm not hyping Sumavel - I don't like the rebound and would much rather use O2.

I'm assuming you used to use the imitrex supplied in vials, rather than the pre-dosed syringes? If so, this may help....

Most pharmaceutical chains only order what their supplier sends out...at my local CVS, I was told that the 5-pack 0.5 mL (6 mg) vials had stopped being made in 2010 - this was after they had filled the prescription with the statdose pen, despite the fact that my neurologist had clearly stated that I needed the vials and to provide syringes in order to safely measure out the 2 mg of sumatriptan (~0.17 mL) prescribed.

However, they were extremely helpful, and called other pharmaceutical chains that used different suppliers. They finally managed to find a pharmacy that carried the vials, and I was able to procure them there. Apparently, at this particular pharmacy, there is another clusterhead that has been ordering the vials every 5 days for the past 2 years. I felt terrible for this person, but on the bright side, my insurance pays for 5 vials every 5 days and I'm actually able to get my prescription filled!

Luckily I don't use it that much (and haven't needed to since my verapamil was increased and I believe I'm on the cusp of the end of my first ever cycle), but if you are indeed looking for the vials, just ask around. I was glad I did.

Ive disected the one piece pens and have split the dosage.

Once you've torn it down remove the vial and push half doses into insulin syringes, cap and store for later use.

They are a pain to break down but it can be done.

slpierce1988 gave you some good information...congrats on the family Smiley Smiley Smiley...sorry to hear that the BEAST is back...

1)...weather its from GSK or generic, they are out there...you need to tell your LAZY pharmacist to get off of their lazy ass and order them for you...better yet, since he or she gave you this BS story, perhaps you might want to take your bus. to another pharmacy...just saying

2)...actually,its NOT difficult at all to take the stat-dose apart...if you need any help with this...please send me a note on my regular e-mail and i would be more than happy to help in any way i can...as i check it daily...i don't come here that often (wish i could Sad Sad Sad)....Lenny
