The fight against Cancer is ongoing, but I know in my heart, without a doubt, that someday we will win this battle, and wipe Cancer out. Most of us, if not all, know of someone that has battled or is battling this terrible disease, in some cases that someone may be or have been you.
I am a 29 year Breast Cancer Survivor, and when I take to the track this year for that first lap, I will be celebrating 30 years (June 02, 1983) as a Survivor, Praise God... What a Blessing..
With so many family and friends either having gone through the battle, fighting the battle or having lost the battle, I feel that I must continue to donate and raise money for this worthwhile cause. I personally can't think of a better way to raise money for the fight against this dreadful disease than participating in our local Relay for Life.
Relay for Life is a team event that Celebrates Cancer Survivors, gives Hope to Cancer Fighters and honors those that have lost the battle. The funds raised are used for Research, Education, Prevention, Advocacy and Patients Services. Relay For Life is an outdoor overnight fundraising event where teams take turns walking or running around a track, with at least one member from each team being on the track at all times.
The Classic E Gnomes Team this year will consist of members from last years' team and possibly some new participants. We will be joined by hundreds of others on June 8th & 9th, 2013 at the Centennial High School Track. Thousands of people nationwide take part in Relay for Life events. Relay for Life raises over 40% of the funding for the American Cancer Society.
Thanks to you and others that made a donation on my behalf last year, and SOME SUPER GREAT TEAM members... I personally came in 3rd highest in our Local Relay Fund Raising in 2012, out of 1094 registered participants, and my team, The Classic E Gnomes, came in 9th out of 104 teams..
The Relay starts off with a Survivor’s walk, where Cancer Survivors such as myself, and other team members, walk the initial lap, symbolizing the courage that Survivors and their families display and sustain in their lives.
Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and most important of all, that one day cancer will be eliminated..

Additionally, you may purchase a Luminary Candle(s) to honor someone fighting cancer or in remembrance of someone who has lost their battle with cancer, for a donation of $10 each. During the event, there’s a Luminary Ceremony where candles or placed in bags with the name of the person you are honoring or remembering and lit after dark.
Please remember, NO AMOUNT IS TO LITTLE and NO AMOUNT IS TO LARGE. One Dollar at a time…
