PR921 - I would suggest you start a thread in the Getting to Know ya section for your husband with some more details on what hes on and what has or has not helped

Also look over the Supporters Corner section as you may find it helpful.

Good luck and thank you for taking an active role in your Husband's treatment.

Well, 10 weeks into the D3 and doing much better! It has also only been a month since I started the correct magnesium and 1.5 weeks since I upped my dosage. I have definitely turned a corner. My prednisone taper is also essentially over. The great news is that I am rarely getting hits now and when I do they are relatively mild and aborted with a red bull and/or oxygen. I even tried a beer test 3 nights ago. I did awake with a hit at midnight but it was much better than normal and I had shadows the following day that were kept at bay with red bull and O2.

Anyway, staying positive that this cycle is almost over and the D3 is working its magic. Thanks Batch!

YesDog,

Thanks for the feedback.  It sounds like you've wrangled the beast to parade rest...

Staying on this regimen is the best way to avoid the next cycle.  Many other episodic CH'ers have reported staying on this regimen full time and it made their next regularly scheduled annual bout with CH a non-event...

Take care and please keep us posted.

V/R, Batch

I joined CH.com yesterday and this is my first post.  My husband is in a cluster period right now.  He is currently using just O2, but I would like him to try the D3 regimen I have been seeing on these posts.  What exactly is it?  I purchased the D3 and Omega Fish Oil last night.  Do I need to add the Magnesium and Calcium Citrate?  I would appreciate any help.  As you all know, our nights are AWFUL and he is exhausted. Thanks!

Start here:

10,000 IU D3
500mg Magnesium
500mg Potassium
500mg Calcium Citrate
2400mg fish oil

all of the above once per day.  I take all mine at once in the morning with 8 oz of orange juice.

yes, you need the magnesium and calcium citrate.  It won't work without them.  I've been pf for four year now just by taking the D3 regimen.

best of luck

Calcium Citrate has been taken out of the regime, instead,
replace it with Kirkland Mature Multi 1/day.
great to read you are pain free.

Thanks, I'll look into switching, but I am hesitant to change something that works for me...

Hoppy,
I thought the Calcium Citrate supplement was required with this regimen to avoid the D3 pulling calcium from teeth and bones.

Might want to ask Batch about this before stopping the Calcium Citrate.

Also, most of us are NOT old enough to require the "Mature" multi vitamin and would think any high quality multi vitamin would be sufficient if you read the ingredients label.

IndianaJohn,
What's this about 500mg Potassium?  Never read that before as part of the vitamin regimen.  Please quote your source.  I also would be hesitant to switch something that works.

The Kirkland brand Mature Multi contains 220 mg/day calcium and the Kirkland brand Calcium citrate contains 500 mg/day calcium.

After 4 years working with CH'ers taking this regimen, it appears 220 mg/day of supplemental calcium is sufficient to prevent any loss of bone mineral density (BMD).  Moreover, now that we've added vitamin K2, we've optimized the flow of calcium to building BMD.

Both formulations contain most of the vitamin D3 cofactors with the Mature Multi having a better formulation as it also contains the 7 B vitamins and vitamin A (retinol) where the calcium citrate does not.

Both formulations will work just fine, but both require additional magnesium and the calcium citrate lacks vitamin A (retinol) and the B vitamins.

Accordingly, my rational for switching from calcium citrate to Mature Multi was based on the following factors.  The Mature Multi has a better formulation and the cost/dose is less.

Hope this helps.

V/R, Batch
