going to get supplies for d 3 regeime...help!
May 25th, 2013 at 7:51pm

Going tomorrow to get my husband started on the d 3 regiment.  I only have a smart phone to read on now.  Could someone tell me what to buy and the dosages he should start with.  Seeing nuerologist on Tuesday.  Thanks ahead of time.....Lori

Hey Lori,

Here's the basic regimen and dose from Costco that worked well for me and many others:

If you can't get to Costco, look for name brand vitamin D3 in 5,000 IU strength, Citracal Plus, and any name brand Omega 3 Fish Oil.

The last thing to pick up is some Centrum Silver or Safeway brand  Century Senior 50 + Formula.  Both should contain the vitamin A and vitamin K.  If your husband takes one of these a day he can drop back to one of the calcium citrate or Citracal tablets.

Several CH'ers have found the fastest way to a pain free response to this regimen was to double the vitamin D3 daily dose to 20,000 IU/day with a once a week loading dose of 50,000 IU for the first month (that works out to 190,000 IU/week vitamin D3) or until they experienced a complete cessation of cluster headache symptoms for at least 48 hours, whichever occurs first then drop back to the 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3 maintenance dose.

Remember to ask for the 25(OH)D lab test when your husband sees the neurologist

Take care and Please keep us posted.

You love lots of things if you live around them. But there isn't any woman and there isn't any horse, that’s as lovely as a great airplane. If it's a beautiful fighter, your heart will be ever there

Got everything.  Going to start him off with the 50000 d3, 1200 fish oil,400 calcium citrate and a centrum silver with dinner tonight.  Figured Sunday is a good day for the large d3 since we usually have a larger family dinner then.  Any suggestion on what dose d3 for tomorrow?  Was thinking maybe 30000 since he is toward the beginning of his cycle and had been getting hit pretty hard.- Lori

My personal recommendation would be the 50,000iu loading dose once a week with 20,000iu daily the rest of the week. But be sure to get the 25(OH)D serum test sometime soon so you know where you're at.
