Rotigotine in CCH.

A case in cluster headache treated with Rotigotine: clinical and
neurophysiological correlates.

Abstract.

Background. Chronic cluster headache (CCH) is characterized
by recurrent bouts of facial pain lasting up to 180 minutes
in the absence of a long remission period.

Case: We report the case of a 43-year old male patient with
treatment-resistant CCH, who improved with administration of
transdermal Rotigotine. We also evaluated the nociceptive
blink reflex habituation that was reduced before the treatment
(as is usual in CH patients) and normalized by transdermal
Rotigotine.

Conclusions. We suggest that Rotigotine could represent a
further therapeutic option in the treatment of drug-resistant CCH.

A study of one doesn't lead me to believe this may be some new breakthrough, especially given it is a dopamine agonist, and I can't recall seeing anything like it applied to CH treatment before. It seemed to help the patient's twitchy eye, too.

Reply #5 - May 29^th, 2013 at 12:26am I get a twitchy eye when in cycle and the droopy eye during an attack. The twitching drives me nuts, but it only happens between attacks and isn't painful on its own.

Reply #6 - May 29^th, 2013 at 2:59am Hi Nani, I've never read anything on twitchy eyes in CH sufferes. I myself hav'nt experienced them , is it common in CH, or just in CCH.? I'm thinking because that patient was drug resistent to all other treatments, is why they tried Rotigotine after doing research. Hoppy.

Reply #8 - May 30^th, 2013 at 1:21am Interesting possibility, but I think I'm with Nani on this one. I get the twitching eye also, and occasionally a twitchy hand and leg, which my Neuro was concerned was Parkinson's. Fortunately, I do't' fit the other parameters of the disease, but we will be keeping an eye on it as my mother has Parkinson's.

I remember my mum alway's saying, old age does'nt come by itself, maybe this can also apply to us suffering from CH. Sorry to hear about your mum, does she use a Rotigotine patch.? Hoppy.
