CH's more frequent at times of week?
Jun 6th, 2013 at 12:13pm

Is it possible for CH episodes to occur more frequently at a certain time of the week during a cluster?  This is my first cluster period - started Saturday after Memorial day - and I seem to have more issues during the weekend then during the week.

I thought it may be caffeine intake, so I going to try to drink some more energy drinks this weekend to hold off the beast.  Hoping the D3 regiment will start helping soon, Topamax isn't doing anything that I can tell, but its only been 4 days there.  If its bad this weekend I'm going to get my Doc to prescribe O2.  I don't want another wasted and miserable weekend.

When you are just starting with a new Cluster picture it may take months to a year before a stable picture emerges--in terms of times, frequency, location of pain, etc.

Quite hopeless to try and predict at this stage and the effort only increases tension/anxiety about your future.

The difficulty with using 2 or more treatments at the same time (Top & D3, etc.) isn't you can't tell which is effective when relief starts to emerge. You'll have to decide whether managing two approaches is worth the effort/$.

Are you more or less active on the weekend compared to during the week?

Do you work more hours during the week or weekend?

Do you exercise during the week or weekend?

How is your diet during the week compared to weekends? Consider what the quality (or not) of your dietary intake, as well as how regularly (or not) you eat.

Do you get more or less sleep during the week compared to during the weekend?

Do you have more stress/responsibilities during the week or on weekends?

Some or all of these questions may help you better understand your individual situation.

Until you understand your cycles better, document as much as you can, a headache diary, and share with your headache specialist your findings.
Good luck! Wink

That certainly happens for my CHs, with more on a Friday / Saturday and Monday, with very few on a Tuesday. For me it seems that there is a link to changing stress levels, amongst other factors.

For my migraines, there is little correlation between the day of the week, other than a slight increase on Fridays.

Things like this are much easier to identify with a good headache diary.

Stress is a funny one with CH. For me, periods of heavy stress are a trigger, for others, relaxing is a heavy trigger! That means Saturdays and Sundays, they get creamed. One guy on the board had a moniker that said "NEVER EVER EVER RELAX!!!" As Bob mentioned, with time, you'll get a clearer picture of your cycles.

About the relaxation thing - personally, I get mostly nocturnal attacks while in cycle, and the ones I do get during the day don't really seem to care if I'm relaxed or not. Also, when out of cycle, extreme stress CAN invoke the beast.
