D3 Starting to work?
Jul 21st, 2013 at 5:46am

Today is 9th day on D3.  Today I had my first pain free morning in about 16 days.  A strong shadow woke me up (same as the last 16 days) and I thought: here we go again.  Sat up, put my hand on my head, and within 10 seconds the shadow was completely gone.  Still in shock and PF...

I shadowed for weeks while my 25(OH)D serum level built up to beneficial levels.

Hey Jmac,

Thanks for the updates.  It sounds like your 25(OH)D serum concentration is building to the tipping point where all CH symptoms go away.  You can make this happen faster by doubling your vitamin D3 daily dose until the symptoms clear for at least a week then drop back to the 10,000 IU/day maintenance dose.

If that doesn't clear the symptoms in a week, add a 50,000 to 100,000 IU loading dose once a week until the symptoms have cleared completely for at least a week then drop back to the maintenance dose

In researching an optimum loading dose for this regimen, I selected a 50,000 IU dose once a week as this was the more conservative approach that was well tolerated with no reported adverse side effects.  Our skin can easily develop that much vitamin D3 during an hour in the mid day sun clad in a bathing suit without sun block.

Depending on body weight, a loading dose of  100,000 IU (< 200 lbs weight) to 150,000 IU (> 200 lbs weight), vitamin D3 can be safely used to raise serum 25(OH)D to desired levels.

If you work with a physician with lab tests for 25(OH)D, calcium and PTH (parathyroid hormone) you can use a much higher loading dose.  A 2010 study used a single 600,000 IU loading dose to raise the 25(OH)D serum concentrations of deficient youths by 60 ng/mL in three days.

Context: Effects of vitamin D repletion in young people with low vitamin D status have not been investigated so far. Objective: We evaluated the effect of a single massive dose of cholecalciferol on calcium metabolism at 3, 15, and 30 d, compared to baseline.

Design and Setting: We conducted a prospective intervention study in an ambulatory care setting.

Participants: Forty-eight young subjects with vitamin D deficiency participated in the study.

Intervention: A single oral dose of 600,000 IU of cholecalciferol was administered to each subject.

Main Outcome Measures: We evaluated serum changes of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, calcium, and PTH induced by a single load of cholecalciferol.

Results: The 25(OH)D level was
15.8 +/- 6.5 ng/ml at baseline and became
77.2 +/- 30.5 ng/ml at 3 d (P < 0.001) and
62.4 +/- 26.1 ng/ml at 30 d (P < 0.001).

Batch,

thanks so much for taking the time to respond with all of this information.  A quick questions:  What is the best time of day to take the supplements.  I have been taking them with breakfast.  If i double the dose, should i do 10,000i iu in the morning and 10,000 at night?  or take it all at once?

Interesting fact:  saturday and sunday i was in the sun for 6-8 hours.... sunday and monday... no attack.

Thanks!

G'day Jmac,
I always land myself in trouble when i answer this?.
The general rule of thumb, is to take the whole Regime
with your main meal of the day, but i have read others
take half in the morning and rest at night. Myself i take
the whole Regime with my evening meal, except for the
Centrum daily vitamin which i take in the morning, helps
me keep trucking through the day.

Hoppy.

Ok cool.  I like the idea of taking it all at once.  I did get a k3-4 this am.  But it lasted only about 15 to 20 minutes.  I'll take that over a 3 hour bout!
