New favorite convention memory
Sep 15th, 2013 at 7:52am

A beautiful young couple hugging and crying after aborting an attack with oxygen. Racer had an M tank rigged with an optimask and a regulator that went to 45 lpm. Like so many he tried oxygen but it failed.......low flow re breather mask....doomed to fail. He started getting g hit during one of the sessions he was quietly whisked to the 02 station and in 15 minutes was pain free hugging his wife and both were bawling. Reminds ya what the real purpose of this community is!  Wink

It truly was awesome, their first cluster group gathering, and a winning o2 experience for them! Made my whole trip!

Reminds me of my first time with oxygen. I was in tears from knowing what a difference it would make and saw my wonderful supporter in tears too for the same reason.

And people sometimes wonder why we push people to use oxygen...

I have 2 real unforgettable memories concerning 02 n my CH Family. #1) My 2nd DAVCON; take sister with me, long winter drive, arrive safely; get a hit while sitting n the Atrium enjoying my Cluster Family Grin when the Evil  Undecided1 decides 2 shows his Ugly Head (one of those sneak attacks that gives no warning Angry); having never allowed any other than a few family members n ER personal c me having an attack I made every attempt to get up and run to my room. I never make it out of my chair before a o2 mask was placed on my face, needle in my tummy n ice on my neck. N the back ground, some where far away I can hear my sister, Rosie, crying. As I feel my body draining of the evil one, I hear some one tell her, we're not hurting her, n I hear Rosie say I know; I've taken her to the ER a hundred times and I never seen them work on her like that, instead of screaming, crying n hitting herself in the head with her fist, all I see is a few tears, where have u people been? Some one told her THAT'S BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THEM. That was not only my first hard hit around my CH family, it was my introduction to o2...#2) at a convention, real bad cycle, no meds (ran out) 4 got my key 2 my o2 tank, went to my room, suffering something terrible, Jackie n Racer can't find me, get hotel staff to let them in my room (don't know how they worked that, but glad the did); came in, and Racer used his knife to open my o2 tank,,,,  Other Family Members made  sure I plenty of meds on the drive home..  I Luv U Guys All Of You..   Smiley Smiley

Joe, thank you for sharing that story.  There were so many newbies there this year, and so many of them were introduced to so much so fast.  I hope they were able to absorb enough to know how to ask questions when they get on the boards.  40 lpm knocked out a hit for me in about 3 minutes after I had been holding my breath waiting for 25 lpm to give me enough to halfway inhale.  i though 25 was wonderful, but WOW!  The care and compassion of one clusterhead to another can only be paralleled by combat veterans.  One has to experience the agony to understand, (even if it is second-hand by supporters, who suffer just as much as do we.)

Ruthie, we've come a long, long way!  I miss those days, but am so glad we don't have to relive them.  Precious memories!

I'm about choked up right now .. Yesterday I was cleaning out a cabinet and ran across a little car that was in the silent auction in St. Louis. Karl purchased that car and gave it to my grandson who he found out had been bidding against him..

Reason:  At dinner that night Karl had been sitting at our table and we were all talking and laughing and out of the blue, Caleb got up and went over to Chuck and said something to him and Chuck jumped up and found Carl D (who had an O2 tank with him). He brought the O2 tank over and slapped it on Karl. None of us had noticed that Karl was getting hit, but Caleb had. (He was 7 at the time). He knew Chuck would do something.

Finding that little chevy car brought that all back. There are so many memories, but that one is so fresh right now.  Kiss

You have a great grandson, Barbara. It's amazing how little kids can see and feel what's happening around them and adults completely miss it all.

Barbara,

I remember that night so very well.  Caleb really has developed compassion by being around you, and by you exposing him to so many who suffer with this mess.

I've not heard or seen anything from Karl for quite some time.  Does anybody ever talk with him?
