FL-41 rose glasses
Sep 16th, 2013 at 5:17pm

Not sure if a post has been made on the subject.  Sorry if I am duplicating a previous thread.

I suffer clusters from January to April every year.  It began 10 years ago.  I usually get 3 - 4 a day during my cycle.  The remainder of the year I have to be careful to not trigger migraines (through light, odor, diet, etc).  Recently I picked up some rose (FL-41) colored glasses from the Moran Eye Center in SLC.  They have been a lifesaver for me so far.

I have found that light is a trigger of my migraines, and possibly has an impact on my clusters.  I have not had a chance to try them out during my cluster season.  I am particularly sensitive to the light caused by overcast skies.  Since I began to wear the glasses on cloudy days, I have had no feeling of pressure in my head that I had come to expect.

I really hate pumping my body full of pain pills.  The Imitrex has been my only relief, though it provides only minor relief.  The glasses with FL-41 tint have let me live a normal life through the last week of cloudy days, when I normally would have been in pain every day.

I will update after my cluster season has started, but until then, for those who think that light plays a part in your headaches, give the glasses a try.  They are reasonably priced at $65 with shipping, or $40 if you send your own frames in.

It is not an ad.  I just wanted to point people to the place I went.  They are a part of the University of Utah.  I am sure there are other places online to get them.  I was just excited about it and wanted to pass the information along.

At the very least I wanted to open up another idea for non drug related help.

I guess I am also wondering if anybody else has tried changing the color of light during cluster season and if it has worked.

I have a friend who suffers from migraines. She has really, really reduced her migraine attacks by getting rid of fluorescent lighting and using FL-41 lenses.

Now she keeps wondering why I don't have the same results. I try to explain that they are completely different problems, and that bright lights, flickering lights, different colored lights, smells and foods have ZERO impact on my Cluster Headaches.

Her only response is that it works on her "Cluster Migraines" so I must have a different type of headache.

I just walk away in lieu of ruining a relationship........

On cycle bright lights.....more so bright sunlight, are a trigger for me. Avoiding triggers will somewhat reduce the number of attacks for me, so I can see where something like that would be a useful tool. My guess is you'll find that they might help you avoid having an attack triggered by bright lights....but you'll still have the normal beast visits. But Lord knows every little advantage helps!

This really sounds interesting to me. I don't expect to ever be hit again but should it happen I'll give this a go.

Thanks, Dixtu, and good health.

I will update with during my normal cycle any findings I have.  I am hoping for the best.  it would be nice if there was some help, other than drugs out there.

Have you had a chance to check out the D-3 regimen yet? It's a vitamin mineral supplement routine, all stuff that's good for you even without CH. Has me pain free over 3 years, worth a look see.
