Question for all you veterans

I was recently diagnosed by my pcp with CH after 5 years of being told by another doc it was sinus infections. Been in cycle since June.finally I wonder if its winding down.had a couple of PF days and now when the beast hits it might be 2 times a day.barely more than shadows.I'm on verapamil 240 mgs and although it might be a low dose it has really seemed to help in the last week.My question is this; I'm supposed to meet with headache specialist next month.Do I still go even though my CH is almost non existent? Probably a dumb question, but thought I would ask.I'm also thinking it would save me 500 bucks here at Christmas with two small children.Am I crazy?

The cycle winding down is good for you right now , but really not relevant in the long run. Would your kids rather 1 nice Christmas and watch you in agony if you don't need to be???

I'm with Just not on this one. Get the relationship started with your neuro now. CH is a lifetime problem, it'll come back stronger sometimes, weaker sometimes, meds will stop working, the sooner you have that relationship with a neuro the better. You want to be able to pick up the phone, get the oxygen, imitrex, prednisone and verapamil prescriptions called in THAT MINUTE to your local pharmacy, then worry about getting in to see him.

Spend any time on the boards and you'll see people suffering for weeks while they try to get into a specialist to treat their CH. A relationship with a good neuro is worth its weight in gold.

Other wise $500 would come in very useful at Christmas time. Hoppy.

Smart move on keeping the appointment for a few reasons.

Whilst your PCP has given you a diagnosis, getting this confirmed by a headache specialist is vital as often most PCPs don't have the skills or experience. Whilst they may have got it spot on, getting the confirmation could avoid being treated for the wrong thing, which with several other conditions that mimic CH could be serious.

Whilst the CH isn't a problem now, you'll probably get more out of the appointment with a clear head and a good nights sleep, which is what you might not have if you were to wait for the next cycle.

And it means that you can get everything ready for the next cycle before it starts rather than having to scramble to get things sorted once one starts (although hoping this is not for a long time).

I'm hoping its awhile too.whats weird is my cycle is usually getting ready to crank up.always had it in the late fall/winter months.first time in the summer.my garden sure suffered this year because of it.think I'm looking foward to the appt. now.wife has been reading up on the neuro.he is apparently pretty good,and won an award from the local hospital for patient compassion.
