cluster headaches and jaw surgery
Oct 10th, 2013 at 3:02am

back when i was 15 i had jaw surgery to move my jaw forward as i had a bad overbite. the surgery involved cutting of both sides of my lower jaw sliding it forward, and wiring it shut for 6-8 weeks. it was after this surgery i stared to develop weird headaches where one eye would close and water at first these headaches where tolerable but within 3-5 years became full blown crying, pacing, head bangin cluster bombs. fast forward to age 24 i think. it was then i saw a oral surgeon in wpg mb, who was 100 per cent certain i had tmj. and due to reduced cartilege in the right side of my jaw i should have a surgery that now LOWERS the jaw joint,or increases the gap. the reason i ended up in his office was because of the jaw pain from my early undiagnosed cluster headaches. so i had the surgery praying this would relieve my symptoms. it did not. all it did was screw up my bite and possibley cause me even more grief than i should be in ....maybe, but when i returned to complain to the surgeon that the pain was not gone he said i had an infection gave me a prescription for it and sent me on my way saying there was nothing more he could do. to this day i wonder if any of the surgeries ive had in my jaw are the complete reason i have cluster headaches or if its just coincidence. i wonder if i will ever know....sigh

I would doubt it very much. Mine started when i was 27yrs
old, and just came out of nowhere, never having any kind
of surgery. other headaches are caused by head trauma
but what i've read not CH's.

Hoppy.

Medical literature has a steady stream, if small, of reports where what appears to be Cluster is, in reality, a disorder which mimics Cluster. See:
Link to: cluster-LIKE headache:

IN: "Medications, Treatments, Therapies --> "Important Topics" --> "Cluster-LIKE headache"

A true Cluster, under current thinking, arises from a malfnction of the hypothalmus. Other "cluster-LIKE" disorders develop, as you can read, from a wide range of conditions which appear to have no relationship to headache disorders.

Point being: takes a sharp doc to diagnose and many, I assulme, don't know about the "cluster-LIKE" syndrome.
