Hola Tiffany,

Thanks for the headzup you've started the anti-inflammatory regimen.

As you'll see in the chart below based on data from the on line survey of 110 CH'ers using this regimen, the response times to a significant reduction in the frequency, severity and duration of CH can take as little as one day.  80% respond within the first two weeks and over 90% respond prior to the end of the 4th week.

Have you seen your PCP for the 25-Hydroxyvitmin D lab test? It's also called 25(OH)D, the metabolite of vitamin D3 that's used to measure its status.  The normal reference range for 25(OH)D is 30 to 100 ng/mL, 75 to 250 nmol/L.  Knowing your serum concentration of 25(OH)D takes a lot of guessing out of response times.

As CH'ers we need to keep our 25(OH)D serum concentration up around 85 ng/mL to have a sustained pain free response.  For most of us, that will take a maintenance dose of 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3.  The following chart illustrates the average 25(OH)D response over time to a daily intake of 10,000 IU vitamin D3.

If the above lab test indicates your 25(OH)D serum concentration is low, an accelerated vitamin D3 dosing schedule will speed up the process of building serum 25(OH)D to the target concentration of 85 ng/mL, (212.5 nmol/L).

Many CH'ers have found an accelerated vitamin D3 dosing schedule of 25,000 IU/day plus a 50,000 IU loading dose once a week on top of the daily dose gets them to a pain free response faster than taking 10,000 IU/day.  Stay on this dosing schedule for two weeks then drop the loading dose and lower the daily dose to 15,000 IU/day for another two weeks.  At the end of this 4 week dosing schedule, see your PCP for another 25(OH)D lab test.

This dosing schedule works out to 660,000 IU of vitamin D3 over a four week period and the average response is an increase of 60 ng/mL over the starting 25(OH)D serum concentration...

Be sure to take the vitamin D3 and Omega-3 Fish Oil with the largest meal of the day with the most fats...  Vitamin D3 loves fat and taking it with the largest meal can increase absorption by as much as 50% over taking it in the morning on an empty tummy...

Take care and please keep us posted.

V/R, Batch

I started the D3/Omega 3 routine about five days ago. I also switched to a calcium supplement that contains magnesium and zinc.

On the first day, I ate a somewhat light breakfast. I usually have a green smoothie for breakfast daily. However, this first day I had several attacks, and felt a bit "woozy", for lack of a better term. I figured the 10,000 IU of D3, coupled with the light breakfast, was the culprit. I also chose to take the pills first thing in the morning because I mainly suffer from attacks from mid-morning through early evening.

Since then, I make sure to eat a more substantial breakfast, which has eliminated the "woozy" feeling. Thus far, I am mainly having shadows with a few headaches (I'm also chronic). I am optimistic I'm on the right path. However, reading this post, I think I may need to increase the D for a few weeks and then taper down to the 10,000 IU of D3. I'm going to give it several more days first though to continue to allow it to "kick in" before I try this.
