Red Bull
Dec 9th, 2013 at 10:58pm

This is just a curiosity question as it has worked for me (thanks to this board!) but there are too many posts about it to find why? Does anybody have any idea why Red Bull seems to be a successful (at least to me and some others) abortive? Obviously it's something in it, The T word and caffeine? But what does it do to achieve this to the body? Any idea?

No, not really, at least not with any scientific study backing the opinion. It does work for so many of us, but how? One theory is the Taurine supercharges the caffeine but this seems related to the vascular theory of CHs. Some accept our condition is primarily vascular, others do not. I believe at this point we are only guessing. I rejoice that it is one more weapon in my arsenal against the beast! blessings. lance

Maybe the taurine and caffiene constricts the blood vessels, thus relieving pressure on the nerve. But hey, if it takes the pain away - I don't care why!!!
Glad it works for you.

all I know is that it has either aborted a shadow or halted an on coming hit, with enough time to either go oxygen or imigran...
my only issue, i'de never ever had an energy type drink before, I mean I love my morning coffee and enjoy another before lunch time, but a coffee after lunch meant three sleeps till xmas for me   LOL
but, im actually starting to get used to the taste and quite like it, of redbull.  but funnily enough, ide get woken in the early hours with a shadow, scull a red bull, 5 minutes later its gone and I can immediately fall back to sleep !!

Taurine is a calcium channel antagonist (just like verapamil is) and there is scientific evidence linking it to headaches - Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor which also has been linked to headaches - Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register. Although caffeine has a mixed impact on some headache types acting as a trigger, especially for migraine, when a headache is not present but having a positive impact when the headache is present.

I also suspect that the bubbles also help with the rapid absorbtion of the active ingredients in the same way that rapidly drinking a sparkling wine will have a quicker effect than drinking a similar non-sparkling wine.

Personal experience that the COLDER the better...dunno if blood circulation restriction or redirection or ????...but defintely beneficial.

Also note that low blood sugar can be a trigger (in my case anyway)...most energy drinks are very HIGH in sugar...

And don't get hung up on brand names....Red Bull was just the first...and has the highest adverstising budget...which YOU are paying for! Go for price....with 1000mg taurine and 100+ mg caffeine minimums...dang the taste...it's secondary.

Best

Jon

That's been my experience, too, Jon. The colder the better although like you I'm not sure why. blessings. lance

Like Lance, I chug an ice cold Red Bull while aborting with 02. The cold seems to make it more effective.

Who cares what the taste is like. At the point I need a Red Bull it could taste of <insert something horrible> and I'd still drink it.

I was actually suprised quite a few months after I started using it to find that Red Bull wasn't even red in colour, which I'd assumed from the name.

It's not? Oh well, I drink Green Monster. I think it's green in color, but like you said, who cares? I just want it to work. blessings. lance
