People suffering from both CH's and Migraines is a known
fact. The other illness you mentioned has nothing to do
with CH's.

You could find a long list of people who have Cluster and
*****. But that does not prove, or even suggest, that the two conditions are related.

There is an old saying in science, "correlation is not causaton".

The complexity of sorting out this issue is outlined in:

If you get Parkinsons disease, CH's did'nt cause it.

There is a fairly good connection between CH and prior brain trauma, and that may be a causal relationship where trauma causes damage that later spills over into CH.  And (not surprisingly) CH is linked with a higher rate of depression and anxiety, I think that the headaches alone are enough to increase the risk of those. Bipolar is another condition that may be linked - in the sense that a much higher number of people with clusters have bipolar disorder than would be expected by chance ... probably related to genes that control the ion pumps in and out of cells. Seasonal Affective Disorder may be another condition that overlaps with clusters - the fact that so many of us are tightly linked to the calendar and the clock points to a mechanism similar to SAD.

As far as parkinsons, alzheimers, etc - I have not seen any research to suggest one thing or another.

Two neurological diseases simultaneously really would be the rottenest luck, CHS, but on the law of averages alone there's no reason it couldn't happen. Not that one causes the other, just a lousy roll of the dice.

It's likely part of the reason medical specialists are so busy (and so bloody expensive) while they try to identify just one condition surrounded and confused by so many others.

Just look at the number of us who spent years  before learning this hell actually has a name, but to have more than one dread disease like this?

I wouldn't wish that on my mother-in-law.

Clusterhead survivor,

Part of the confusion here may have been due to your use of the word Secondary. In the medical field, to say that Condition A is secondary to Condition B is to say that Condition B causes Condition A. That appears to be how Hoppy understood your question. Keep looking here. This is a great place to find some answers and relief.

Hi, to those who replied to this thread. But, i don't think we have given him the answer he's looking for. Thanks Lars for explaining where i got confused. I think he's asking if anyone HERE knows of some one suffering two Neurological Disease, at the same time, ie Parkinsons Disease, ect, CH's and Migraines was'nt the answer he wanted. I apologise if i came across rude, but, my reply was how i read the post in the first place.

Cheers, Hoppy.

Hi ClusterHeadSurvivor,

A bit of info lifted from research submissions, one of the largest single studies ever completed on 1134 individual survey participants. The document is hosted on this site, which can be located here: Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

I hope you find this helpful, ClusterHeadSurvivor.
I am not at all suggesting causal, or casual links between any two known conditions. I defer to the expertise and collected data of the principal investigators of the survey.

The 15 page paper is best read in it's entirety, so data appear in context. It's not good practice, but at my peril, I've "cherry-picked" a section for you.

Cluster Headache in the United States of America:
Demographics, Clinical Characteristics, Triggers, Suicidality,
and Personal Burden*

Todd D. Rozen, MD, FAAN; Royce S. Fishman, BA

"A large percentage of survey responders stated that they had a family history of migraine (52%). A family history of Parkinson’s disease was also ascertained, and this occurred in 5% of the total cluster headache population."

"Concomitant Medical Conditions in Cluster Headache Patients (Fig. 1).— A personal history of depression occurred in 24% of the survey responders, while 14% had a history of sleep apnea, 11% restless leg syndrome, and 9% asthma. Interestingly, a very low percentage had known cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction 1%, bypass surgery 0.3%, and coronary stent placement 1%). Strokes were rare occurring in only 0.2%. A diagnosis of emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was noted in only 2%, while lung cancer occurred in only 3 patients or 0.3%. Peptic or duodenal ulcer disease
was noted in only 5%, while diabetes occurred in 3%."

"In regard to familial medical conditions, Parkinson’s disease occurred in 5% of survey responder families. This appears, however, to reflect normal population expected lifetime risk of Parkinson’s and does not suggest a familial risk factor."

I hope this helps.

Cheers, Ben.

I apologise to the original poster, "ClusterHeadSurvivor" unreservedly on behalf of all Aussies, we're not all this rude.

Current data does not appear to definitively indicate, nor exclusively rule out links between conditions. (Again, I defer to the literature and expertise of Scientists and medical researchers) This sort of ignorant, if not sweeping generalisation, Hoppy, coupled with your affinity for rudeness is but one of many reasons why we in Admin had to make the very difficult decision to revoke your membership privileges from the Aussie CH site.

I've made many an apology and extensive reparations to Oz site users for Hoppy's comments in the past, but, growing tired of seeing my research plagiarized and Mal-adapted here, I have one last piece of research for Mr Hopkins. Suggested reading:

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

The supporting study: Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Read that document very carefully, Mr Hopkins, or you risk simply reiterating Dunning & Kruger's research.

Your friend, retired Moderator and Admin, back at the Oz CH site, Ben.

Apologies to ClusterHeadSurvivor, I fully expect that this thread has now been entirely derailed. I hope the information I provided is of some use and puts your mind at ease.

thank you CH Ben.
If its not bad enough we inherit CH. And to think we could possibly add a another disease to the mix that is nuerological. Scary when you think about it.
As I mentioned before I have some other ailments as well and yesterday was posting about a gentleman who has EDS like my son.
Id like to think with tension headaches, migraines, chronic cluster headaches, IBS, Exzema,PTSD,broken bones,Roscesia, arthrtis in my lower back that my resume is full. I don't want to add more.
again, thanks for your kind responce BEN;)
