Imitrex Nasal Question
Feb 5th, 2014 at 10:38am

With the cost of Imitrex so high, I have been searching for some way to make the vials last longer.  I can usually abort with a half of a vial.  The vials that I get a 6ml .5mg.

I recently was prescribed the nasal again(it did not work several years ago) and the dosage is 20mg.  I know this may seem like a strange question, but has any one tried to inject the nasal.  Based on the fact that I get relief with half a vial(.25mg), one nasal dose would provide 8 doses at .25mg.   I understand that it was not designed to be injected, but I can't imagine that with the price of imitrex that I am the only one to consider this.   I have not tried it and do not intend to try it without some sort of confirmation that it would be safe.  Anyone out there crazy and broke enough to think of this?  I also use oxygen, but it is not always effective.  Thanks in advance.

no, don't do it.
I took apart one of the nasal sprayers after I used one just to see what was inside, and it looks like it would be damn near impossible to get the little sack that the imitrex is in out, and then it poses a problem of measuring doses accurately.

Two questions hit me: 1. are there other ingredients in the nasal (preservatives, etc.) which not in the injection; 2. nasal have the same level of sterility?
