Any updated remedies for CH
Mar 5th, 2014 at 4:06pm

I am in need of some answers on CH. No pains meds are helping with this. I am a sales manager @ a car dealership so my days are are very important and need to be pain free. I've had several people referring me to edible cannabis cookies instead of smoking. I am in desperate need of relief just like most of you. I'd appreciate any Medical journals ( I've read several) that have been updated since 2011. I look forward to meeting a number of you through your post. Cool

Welcome to the board TeeJay. You didn't say if you have a doctor's diagnosis. That is a must have. Second, pain meds will not work for cluster  headaches. Third, what "tricks" have you used, such as deep breathing or ice packs or energy drinks? Forthly, have you tried imitrex, prednizone, verapamil, lithium? How about O2? Have you checked out the vitamin D3 treatment?
Read all the info under the buttons on the left side of your screen. Please get back to us. Help is available.

Bob's given you good questions and good advice. The best thing you can do is read as much of this site as you can, searching past posts and making notes. As far as being pf goes, that may be a wish down a hollow well. There is no cure for CHs but the beast can be managed. That's what you're lookin' for. Let us know if you have any other questions. Good luck and God bless. lance

TeeJay, I work in sales myself (not cars, but I deal with the public) so I understand how devastating CH can be to our livelihoods.  After about 6 years of daily CH's, I accidentally found relief in the drug Diltiazem.  It's funny though, that drug may not work in others.  Some drugs others say work for them didn't work for me.  One drug may work for a while and then all of a sudden the CH finds a way back in and attacks anew.  Many doctors don't understand CH treatments, so that adds to our struggle.  What the others said above about getting diagnosed by a doctor who understands CH and looking into oxygen (I used welders' oxygen, but that's another topic of debate) is stuff you should take action on immediately if you haven't already.  I sincerely wish you a pain-free future.

I'd feel better if you were seeing a headache specialist--not only for the need for careful care but because the most effective meds reqire an Rx.
=======
LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

3. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; On-line screen to find a physician.

4. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

5. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Hi TeeJay, welcome to the most comprehensive CH resource in the world along with the only legit people that understand your pain and suffering.

I'm a salesman and can relate to your work situation.  What helped me at work was a Pred taper, Imitrex injections and RedBulls.

O2 was not an option as I was in outside sales, not inside sales such as yourself.  So you might want to look into getting an o2 tank in your cubicle/office at your dealership.

Also, the anti-inflammatory vitamin regimen works for most who've follow exact protocol.  You might consider trying it!

Again, we here on this site understand your pain and suffering.

Please continue reading from this website as much as you can to gain knowledge about CH's.  You truly need to be more knowledgeable than your doctor.

Lastly, please do answer BobG's excellent questions he asked you, as your answers will help us, help you. Wink

What the two Bob's said.  You cannot go wrong following the advice from either of them.  Preeminent is you must have a qualified diagnosis.  There are to many "cluster like" headaches out there that can be deadly.  You probably have CH, but knowing for sure is very important.  Just off the top of my head I think of two in the time I've been around here who had an initial diagnosis of CH by a GP, but on further examination by a headache specialist more sinister problems were found.  Fortunately, they were also corrected, and we have two living non-CH'ers in our midst.

Gregg's advice about an O2 tank in your office, or even out in the shop area is excellent!  High flow O2 at  the rate of 25 lpm through an O2ptimask (see the CH.com store on the left) will kill a hit for me in 5-8 mins, allowing you back on the sales floor very quickly.

Definitely look into the D3 regimen.  it's effective for about 80% of us and beneficial for those of us that don't go PF from it.

You have a lot of reading to do!  You must educate yourself because our experience has been very few Dr's know much about CH, and you must learn what protocol YOU want to use.
