All the way from the UK

Hello everyone,

I've peered and taken the quiz and here I am. Whilst Google can be your friend it's also a pretty scary place so I never try to Google any symptoms of anything but alas I did and that's what's brought me here.

A little background I'm male and 28 pretty healthy in life and don't smoke or drink that often, not as active as I probably should be but work and life does not always allow such luxury.

So what brings me here?

I'll go back a few years...In 2011 I was at University and started getting these headaches always on my right side and mainly starting in my neck and I'm talking big pain I use to just go to sleep as quickly as possible and after a week or two I stopped getting them. I did go to the docs who "found" nothing wrong and suggested an eye test so I went and had one. I did have a slight eye strain in my right eye but nothing that effected my eye sight just the muscle or something for those in the know it was 0.50 in my right eye and they put my headaches down to this.

Now 2014 comes along, I use my glasses for gaming or pc work, I started getting the headaches AGAIN in my right eye and my neck oh the neck pain!! So I decided to go to the opticians again and guess what? My right eye has got better 0.25 and I'm very slightly long sighted :/

But non of this stops my headache, I do not take any medication even when I feel an attack, I can sense that they have never fully gone like right now I swear I can feel it just about to come on...

They last for hours and half the time now sleeping does not get rid of them. I do not have a registered GP at the moment (I know naughty me).

So here I am, at your mercy. Do I stay or do you send me away? It's been about 2-3 weeks now and I'm getting one every couple or few days and when attack has gone I'm still left sore in a sense.

If you were able to sleep then it's unlikely you have CH. But there are many headache disorders which mimic CH, and they all respond to different meds, so it's vital that you get a proper diagnosis, and a scan to rule out anything sinister.

Which ever headache type you have, there are plenty of good meds which will help. You just need to know what you have first. What was the result of the cluster quiz?

We're here to help if we can, but we cannot diagnose you. Please get a doctor and get yourself some help.

Thanks Maz.

Well on the quiz I answered yes to most of the questions from 9-16 bar the blocked nose symptom (if remembering rightly).

I agree I do need to get myself signed up to a GP but I really don't like bothering the Doctors over something that could be nothing, however without going I suppose I won't know if it is something or nothing...

When I had my first attacks in 2011 sleeping helped a lot however now if I try to go sleep I either finally fall sleep after lots of tossing and turning but I can be woken up from the pain quite easily.

I understand that you have not seen a GP. But that's the place to start to find the source of your distress.

A footnote, however: IF there is a suspicion of Cluster, then it would be time to move to a headache clinic. Our experience with UK folks is clear: most GPs have meager education/skill in dealing with complex headache disorders. If you get to this stage, then contact your excellent support group and they will advise on how to get moved to a speciality clinic.
