1000mg Taurine pills
Jul 30th, 2014 at 8:55pm

Hi,

About two weeks ago I got my 1000mg Taurine pills. The pills are filled with Taurine powder and are made by NOW.

I bought them because when I drink an energy drink (which contains 1000mg of Taurine) when the CH starts, it kills the pain very quickly, and it's the only cure I found so far.

I tried to take a pill of 1000mg when the pain started but it didn't help as energy drinks do. I guess that because it's not resolved in water it takes much more time to get into my system.

However, I think I feel that it helps to prevent the headaches, but I'm still not sure.

I read that some of you take 1000mg few times a day regularly, during clusters, however I'm chronic, so my cluster never ends. I'm not sure that I want to take those pills few times a day for the rest of my life.

I got this idea, maybe I can open the capsule, pour the powder to a glass of water, stir it and then drink it. Maybe I'll get the effect much faster?

Has anyone tried it?
If it works I guess it could save a lot of daily hassle.

thanks

It is also possible that it is the combination of the taurine and the caffeine in the energy drinks that is what is making the difference.

I also suspect that the carbonation also assists with the rapid absorption too, speeding up the effect of the ingredients.

Yup...me too....

Yup...and cold...ICE cold...chug that sucker FAST....and for some....welll...for me....low blood sugar can be a trigger. These drinks have lots of that....BUT...they do make sugar-free too...so there be choices.

Best

Jon

Never seen it, but you can no doubt make your own using cold coffee and a sodastream or similar where you carbonate your own drinks.

No idea what it would taste like but then who really cares about it when you need it?

Thanks guys.

I tried sugar free energy drinks and it seems like they work the same as those that contain sugar. Also, most of the times I drink those drinks in room temperature, as I carry them with me everywhere.  So Maybe it's the caffeine.

I find I get absolutely no relief from a strong coffee but red bull has been my constant companion and is excellent at killing shadows and low grade clusters. Definitely ice cold for me as I can feel it on the roof of my mouth where most of my pain and discomfort starts.
Strangely just after chugging it down, I get what is similar to brain freeze headache for a moment (like when eating ice-cream) and then everything starts to ease.
Still can't believe I drink red bull for medicinal reasons  Shocked

Same here, I'd never had it before CH and outside of headache related reasons I've no reason to drink it.

My supporter really hates the smell of it, no doubt as she strongly associates the smell with me being in pain.

lol  I cant believe I drink it either !
im going thru a bit of a rough patch at the minute, and for the most of the time an ice cold rebull does the trick.
the only thing that concerns me is, how many in one day can the body tolerate ?
sometimes ive woken up, with a shocking shadow ( I don't have 02)  and ive reached for the fridge and a red bull, I don't care what time of day, it works. but if I have another say a few hours later for another shadow, I find I start to get a little paranoid about the 2 max per day on the label.
whats the most u guys have taken in a day ?
mine is the sugarless variety and my wife sais the smell reminds her of medicine    LOL

Red bull hasn't worked for me, but if it did I don't think I would bother too much about what is says on the label. Tha "max" you are supposed to have will be way below any danger levels. The manufacturers have to cover themselves. Even with prescription drugs you can take well above the prescribed dose (not that I do as a matter of course) without exploding.
If it was dangerous they wouldn't be allowed to sell it, especially to kids.

You ask how many in one day can the body tolerate. That's exactly what I ask myself about CH. Of all the possible after effects Redbull may cause (repeat - may) could any of them be worse than repeated CHs. The stress levels from that, both physical and emotional, must be enormous.

Hi maz,
            hope all's well  ?
yeah, im hearing you on the redbull "max"
its funny, because when im not in cycle, and a shadow comes, a red bull will send it packing !. At the minute, the cycle is rearing its head, but only to a kip 4-5, If I swig a red bull, it will work for about 3 or 4 hours, if its only shadows, but only works for about an hour if im going to get a full on hit !.  your right, I remember when I was getting smashed, kip 10, 4-5 times a day about a year and a half ago, before I went on the regime, and the amount of imigran I took was more than what was recommended.
last nite I took a 50mg imigran pill before I went to bed, it worked as a preventative !  I slept thru the nite !  I might just swig a few more redbulls during the day then, as they do work.    ive had 3-4 weeks of shadows leading up to, 1-3 kip 4-5 hits now for a week. I dropped verapamil 3 months ago so this is the first time ive presented with a full cycle type scenario since last july, even though the regime is lessening the strength of it.  hmmm
off to the fridge for another lovely tasting redbull then !
just when I think ive tweaked the regime to go pain free, it belts me again  !      the joys !

G'day Colin,
Sorry to read your still doing battle with the  Smiley, though pleased to read
you've stopped those night time visits  Smiley.
Now hoping you find away to piss him off
during the day. The D3 regime is still working
for me, it's been 18mths since his last visit. I'm
hoping this will be the same outcome for you.

Hoppy.

Hi Hoppy,  glad to hear your still p/f  that's brilliant !
yeah, a tad harder for me unfortunately. But the reduced pain levels on the d3 regime, are obvious. Im holding off on going back on the verapomil, I hated every minute of being on it.
I admit I don't have 02 yet either, as red bull and the pill form of imigran work for me.   ive titrated up again tonight on d3 with another 50,000iu, Im not sure where I'd be on a test, but I'm picking I'd be in the vicinity of 260-280 nmol which would be about 110 on the other scale, so im hoping by increasing it it knocks the cycle on its arse, maybe I just need to be higher.  Its all good, just have to tweek a few things and if all else fails, I have a doctors script for 02.
I'm out on the tools all day, so 02 is of no use, just an esky full of redbull LOL   and the "preventative" imigran pill is working for a good nites sleep.
I'll get there !!!!
regards

Blacklab, I hope that if your attacks continue you get O2. No worries about ANY side effects there. I know it doesn't work for every situation but I think we would be going crazy around here if dh didn't have O2!

Better yet, may you and dh be PF thanks to Batch's regime!

I hope there are better times ahead for you Colin.
You've certainly got the right head space to get there.
Good luck
