Has anyone heard of the new Autonomic Technologies trial for patients with chronic cluster?
If you live in New England or New York, we are starting this exciting research project shortly at our headache center (New England Institute for Neurology and Headache).  For more info feel free to email me or reply.

Yes.  That's it.  It's a very interesting concept and has already been performed in Europe with great results.  To me one big advantage is that it's not a "medicine", and therefore has no systemic side effects.

The link to this study states... "During these first several months you will also need to maintain your current preventive headache medication and agree not to use any acute medications for attacks that you are able to treat with SPG stimulation therapy."

Three questions:
1. Is the CH'er allowed to abort with high flow o2 and a NON-rebreather mask when attacked?

2. Is the CH'er allowed to abort with Imitrex injections when attacked?

3. Is this a paid study?

The answer to all 3 questions is yes.  You are asked to try the stimulator ASAP, but if it's not working, you can certainly use Imitrex, oxygen, etc.  to abort the cluster.
