Magnesium and maybe more??
Mar 27th, 2015 at 7:16pm

Im new here but have been reading for years.  Won't waste your time with my history...you already know it.
Haven't had an attack since August.  Now with summer coming I started averaging 8 each day.  My wife gave me powdered magnesium and I started taking Benadryl.  To rid my liver of the triptan, I drink a detox tea.  I think the mag is what does it, worked well in the past and has stopped for the last few days since taking it.  1/2 tspn in a glass of water.  doesn't taste terrible but I swear it works.  I can feel that the headache is still there, but only about 2% at best.

Magnesium is known to control the  Smiley in
some folk, but the vitamin D3 regiment has a better record
at stopping him in his tracks forever.

You're not wasting our time at all. We might be able to suggest some options you can explore based on what you've tried to date.

First off, have you got a preventive medication, something like verapamil, lithium or topomax, to cut down how many CHs you get? Have you got an abortive, like oxygen or injectable imitrex (sumatriptan / imigran)?

Hey Matt,

Welcome to CH.com... Check your PM inbox at the top left of this page.  I've sent you some information on the anti-inflammatory regimen with vitamin D3.

Please feel free to ask questions.

Take care,

V/R. Batch

Thank you all for the replies.
I read my PM box and my wife is on it today to get started.

To elaborate, since I started in 2004, I have taken everything known to prevent...verapamil, lithium, Topamax, o2, kudzu, etc.
I only use triptan injections or nasals as an abortive.  Using up to 9 per day and hoping to make it to the next day. (if the CH doesn't kill you, the triptan will)

I stopped taking ANYTHING in October.  I had been CH free since Aug.  No problems until 3 weeks ago.  With the summer coming and AZ temps hitting 90++, I anticipate a long summer.  To your point Batch, the magnesium worked for a few days and stopped working Saturday.  I don't think I can go back on Verapamil because I am taking Celebrex for another small concern.  I am going to research that further.  Need something to kill this cycle.  Maybe a prednisone card.
Thank you again for the help with the regimen.  I will keep posted.

Do it like he tells you ... it's been wonderful for so many of us. I've been pain free since Oct 2013 (after being chronic since 97).

Batch is my White Knight..  Kiss
