Just in case any one is wondering - we have a new princess.
Fourth in line to the throne. No name yet but my money is on Diana.

Being the "spare heir" I hope she gets to live as normal a life as possible without everything she does being constantly being covered by the media.

........or maybe Alice

I think the Cambridges are pretty strict about privacy. The press were not allowed near Princes William and Harry while they were at school / uni, and we very rarely see Prince George. There was some TV coverage last year when they took him down under, and yesterday he was pictured with Prince William going into the hospital to see his mum and new sister. Other than that we never see him. The younger royals are trying very hard to be much more "normal" than the older ones.

When parts of England were flooded last year, as usual the government was appallingly slow to get aid and help to the people. Prince Charles turned up to see what was happening and it was him that gave the local government a kick up the backside to get things moving, but William and Harry turned up and waded through knee high mud carrying sandbags in and babies and old folks out. They worked hard helping with the clean up and visiting peoples homes. I can't ever imagine the queen, even when she was young, doing aything like that.

That said, there is a program on TV right now discussing todays newspaper headlines, and apparently one of the rags is saying that the the new pricesses life will be centered around what she looks like, and they are speculating on her future hairstyles and what her weight might be. I think she will need those strict parents.

..........or Elizabeth perhaps.

Prince Harry spent time here in Perth last week training
with the SAS, he wasted no time in enjoying the culinary
delights of the city. First stop was trendy CBD eatery The
Stables, where he popped in with a few friends, and took
a table among eighty patrons, and not one came up and
annoyed him, they paid the bill in true Aussie fashion, all
chipping in the pot. The day after he turned up at Flipside
In North Fremantle and ordered a Queen Victoria Burger,
the girl serving asked him for his name for the order   Smiley

This seems to be typical of how celebrities are handled when they visit NZ and Australia, they just get to blend into the background and be "normal" people. I've seen this first hand when the hobbit films were being done and I saw some of the lead actors flying down from Auckland to Wellington. They queued up for the flight just like everyone, sat in normal seats about a third of the way down the plane and were treated by the flight attendants and other passengers just like normal people.

As for Queen Elizabeth doing stuff, during WW2 she was in the Auxiliary Territorial Service:

After months of begging her father to let his heir pitch in, Elizabeth—then an 18-year-old princess—joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II. Known as Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor, she donned a pair of coveralls and trained in London as a mechanic and military truck driver. The queen remains the only female member of the royal family to have entered the armed forces and is the only living head of state who served in World War II.

I wrote the above post sat in the airport lounge waiting for my flight to Wellington. Sat next to me was the Chief Justice, in the lounge were several other Ministers and on the flight was the Prime Minister. All were treated just like anyone else as they flew on the same plane as everyone else, sat in an economy seat, getting the same tea or coffee as everyone else.

It's just another reason why I like NZ.

That's brilliant. Our posh boys - all ex Eton and Harrow schoolboys wouldn't lower them selves to sit with pond life like us-first class only or private flights for them. The only time they talk to us is when they are sucking up for votes.

We have a general election this thursday and I can't wait to go and cast my vote.

I have variously met, guarded or dined with many of our royals over the years and everyone of them came across as simple, decent and down-to-earth princes and princesses.

Her Majesty once gave me a smile and a nod when I was the only one standing under the wing of her aircraft while everyone else was in the bucketing rain, and if it wasn't for the Official Secrets Act I could even mention things about certain royal underwear!

I remain a staunch Republican but will defend our Royal Family to my death, and in the meantime think Brian would be a nice name for the baby.

Long live the queen.

Prince Harry flew out of Perth today, and on leaving was
asked how he found Perth? he replied! Very laid back with
lots of friendly people, and that sums "us" up in a nutshell.

Cheers Hoppy
