I thought I had it under control.
Jun 16th, 2015 at 6:03pm

Until last night. I haven't had a kip10 in several years and this whole cycle been a little bit worse than usual. I have had 9 attacks in the last two days.

So ya, when I say I had them under control I mean I would still get cycles, but between having learned my triggers, massive doses of caffeine via instant coffee, and the other boards favorite treatment I got them to the point where if I couldn't break the cycle, they where very tolerable.

But man, last night, I think I forgot how terrible they could actually be. I think I have been complacent.

So this threw me back into researching it last night after a several year hiatus. I must say there is a lot better info now than there used to be which makes me very happy.

I just took my first dose of the D3 regiment, I hope it works for me and can add it to my arsenal. I dont even remember this being a thing 4 years ago but seeing its accessibility, affordability and almost universal praise I do have high hopes. It does fit my current conditions well. We have had lots of overcast weather with an unusual amount of rain, so no sun coupled with me feeling a little under the weather in the past week. From my reading here it would not surprise me at all that my D3 levels have dropped. The diagnoses fits well.

I am also adding Diphenhydramine on a 4 time a day schedule do to the recent posts here. The arguments made here also makes sense to me with the unusual amount of rain we have had and the spring bloom lots of people have been complaing about their allergies. I had actually tried it 7 or 8 years ago as an abortive treatment and it worked only twice. I chalked it off as a fluke like so many other treatments that seemed to work one or two times. I now realize it was improper use of it. It should have been used as a preventative not abortive treatment. There are lots of triggers for CH and although I dont think I have allergies (the only headaches Ive ever had besides CH is a hangover) this is the perfect season for it in my area. I have had a stuffy nose lately and have been feeling a little ill.

Now I am going to offer a little treatment that I have not seen here but has been a godsend for me. Everyone knows the relationship between caffeine and CH. Slamming redbulls just never really seemed to work for me. I blame that on me seeming to have a high tolerance to just about everything. There just wasn't enough caffeine for me for the volume of liquid. I couldn't get it down fast enough. However, instant coffee lets me control the dose and is unsurpassed in its speed of delivery. I mix up about 5 cups worth in only a swallow or two of hot water. This method has greatly benefited me knocking out over half of my clusters in only 5 to 10 minutes. Energy drinks were not nearly as effective.

As man who has suffered from this affliction for 18 years I would just like to thank everybody for the knowledge shared. None of my treatments, (except the ice pack) would have been readily apparent to me, I probably would have never found them on my own.

theydontunderstand,
It's the combination of caffeine and Taurine in the energy drink that does the trick for most folk.

Ive been reading that but am skeptical considering my situation. Taurine is cheap, especially compared to energy drinks. Why are people not supplementing with straight taurine?

Caffeine, being a vasoconstrictor, is quite obvious to why it works with CH, as many drugs proscribed for CH are also vasoconstrictors.

Their are lots of folk taking 2000-4000mg of Taurine in
capsule form, in place of Verapamil, with good success
as a preventative, and without the side effects of taking
too much Verapamil over a long period, heart problems
being just one of them.

Interesting, I had not read that yet. After a bit of googling I am thinking it may be a worthwhile addition to the D3 regiment.

I'm on the Vitamin D3 Remedy, have been for the past
2 1/2 years, and no more CH's, but I don't think adding
Taurine to the regiment is necessary. I do add 5mg of
Melatonin before going to bed, just to make sure the
beast doesn't pay me a visit during the night.

Geez Hoppy,  It would be 3 sleeps to xmas if I had one of your special coffee's  LOL
But I understand fully about, what works for some, may not work for others.
As far as the red bull goes, I think its a combination and the bubbles of the caffeine and taurine that seems to do the trick. If I can swig an ice cold redbull, at the first sign of an up coming hit, it works great, If I've left it to late, I'll swig the redbull and also put the coffee machine on for a double shot latte !  Then I have a decision to make, its sort of a feeling I get, if I get that feeling I swallow an imigran pill and that pretty well seals the deal. Probably O2 would be a better option, but I feel I haven't needed it, Yet.
Now with the vit d regime really helping, the coffee and redbull seem to be all else that I need.
What works for some, doesn't work for others !
That seems to be the big "bitch" with this beast we have.
cheers
