Chronic Cluster HA - Morphine - Botox
Nov 17th, 2015 at 6:25pm

Hello All...
I've lived with the Beast for 40+ years. When I treat at home I  use:
1.)  Oxygen @ 15/liters minute, with a Non-rebreather O2 Mask;
2.)  Two Excedrin Migraine
3.)  Two Norco.
I also have the ACE gel packs that you can freeze. I hold that on my neck for five minutes and take it off. On again in 20 minutes for 5, then off. The CHA will feel worse as you ice it. Then as it warms, the muscles relax. Never leave the ice on more than 5 minutes. I can make it worse.
When the ugliest of them hit, I've had to go either to my Doctor's office or Emergency Room for IM injections of: 10mg of Morphine / 30mg Toradol (anti-inflammatory) / 25mg Phenegren (anti-histamine). That is THE ONLY combination of meds that help me.
What does everyone else do?
What do you do when the CHA hits a 10 on the Pain Scale?

Your entire treatment program, including meds, is strikingly out of step with the commonly used treatments. Makes me wonder about your doc's experience with complex headache disorders.

First, how long ago was the diagnosis of Cluster was made? Second, have you seen more than one doc and, if so, has the diagnosis and treatment plan remained as you outliened?

Have you used any of the meds outlined in the PDF article, below? If you say you have used any combination of them, without success, then the issue of the accuracy of the diagnosis is called into question. (There is a striking long list of condictions which mimic Cluster but which are not headache disorders.

My thoughts are identical to what Bob posted.

I'd look to get the diagnosis confirmed by a headache specialist who will be able to get you onto the most appropriate medications to match your diagnosis.
