Gambling win bought on cluster headache.
Apr 15th, 2016 at 2:32pm

I have suffered with the episodic demon for around 12 years and a few days ago I was playing online poker and I had a large win which caused an instant cluster headache !!! I am thinking that adrenaline or what ever chemical is released in the brain/body as a result of a large win assisted/caused the attack ?? Anyone else had any similar experience?  Cheesy

Hi Potts and welcome,
Maybe a coincidence, or it could be another CH trigger to add to the list of many  Smiley.

Never had a cycle start like that but twice had cycles stopped in their tracks due to sudden surprise - once when I was being shot at, then again when my dear dad passed away suddenly.

Very effective, but I can't recommend either as a cure.

Hi  AussieBrian, adrenaline ?? stopping/starting CH very interesting. Do you get shot at often ? Might try pulling up a nearby farmers cabbages while having CH see if he will shoot at me might be an instant cure lol.

Excellent idea, maybe a trial where all of us get to do so as the trial will need lots of winners to get a statistically reliable result.

This isn't as far fetched as it sounds...  There’s a very real possibility of a link between Caractacus Potts online poker win and a cessation of his CH symptoms.

The excitement of the online poker win likely stimulated the release of a cocktail of neurotransmitters consisting of noradrenaline, adrenaline and dopamine.  Dopamine is responsible for that “feel good” and rush sensation the body uses to reward certain behaviors and learning.

Here’s where the possible link to CH occurs…  Dopamine also acts as a anti-inflammatory mediator in the brain by down-regulating the production of the same cytokines and proinflammatory agents like substance P and CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) that are elevated during migraine and cluster headache stimulating inflammation and pain.

Caractacus Potts...  A historical name...  Run off any invading Romans lately or are the Syrians the current threat?

You love lots of things if you live around them. But there isn't any woman and there isn't any horse, that’s as lovely as a great airplane. If it's a beautiful fighter, your heart will be ever there
