Medical Oxygen in Baton Rouge
Sep 4th, 2016 at 12:13am

3 weeks into an episode at the moment.  Hoping I can get some help.  It had been over 3 years since my last episode, so I thought they were gone....

I've had clusters for over 10 years now, but like a lot of us, it took awhile to get the diagnosis.  Probably especially because I am a woman.  I don't have insurance and had thankfully become someone of exceptional health...but right before the current episode I had the "perfect storm" of changes to my routine, sleep schedule, diet, exercise, and stress level (due to a relocation and promotion at work).  After a week of trying the alternative medicine route I dug deep out of desperation and found a neurologist.  It took a lot of trial and error (and money) before the doctor finally prescribed them...but sumatriptan injections have been a game changer.  I still need something for when I get a headache more than 2x a day, though, and I need to be able to save the injections for work hours.  I want oxygen, but the neurologist I am seeing now swears he can't give me a presciption for oxygen because the government will think I'm trying to make a bomb?!

So how does everyone else do it, then???  Is there anyone in Louisiana that can refer me to a neurologist that will help me?  I don't feel comfortable with the welding oxygen route, and I'm not even sure how I could pull that off.  ...But tomorrow when I have another headache without that $35 shot I'm sure desperation will be calling again....

Wow, never seen that excuse before! It is incredible how many different excuses people are given for what should be totally routine.

Hopefully there will be someone along soon from your corner of the world who can give you some advice on where to get it.

Have you also got a preventive to cut down how many CH you get? Something like verapamil?

Also do look at how many of us have been using vitamin D3 very successfully too.

Hello Greeneyes,

Wow, that's the weirdest excuse I've heard for not giving Oxygen. I think your Neurologist needs to see a Psychiatrist!!!!!

As Mike says, the D3 Regimen as a preventative has worked very well for over 80% of those of us who have started it and been a life changer, providing long term freedom from pain.

You can read up on it at the following link, paying particular attention to Part 2.

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

It has the added advantages of being excellent for general health and wellbeing and being very cost effective. Do keep your PCP in the picture though.

Ask as many questions as you need. There's always someone here and hopefully someone in your area will direct you to a more pragmatic Primary Headache Specialist.

Keep in touch,

Peter.

Thanks, guys.  The 'crazy doctor' put me on topiramate, and I will keep taking that for a month or two...but I am much more excited about getting my body where it needs to be with the D3 Regimen.

Good morning everyone

My family doctor would not give me oxygen either. I was diagnosed by a different doctor and then moved. She said I had to do a variety of tests first. That was 18 years ago. Why is it so hard for some doctors to give you oxygen. My new doctor said it was a no-brainer. The bomb thing would not have been an issue that long ago.

Dumbfounded

You should tell this Doctor, O2 is not explosive, in fact it's a NON-FLAMABLE gas, but will feed the flames of a flamable material. Google it.

Because CH is so rare and even Neurologists get little headache training, it is all too common the Doctors have no idea how to prescribe O2. I've had to dictate a proper prescription to my Dr.

Many times, when a Doctor does prescribe O2, they do so incorectly. It's in our best interest to know ourself what is needed.

Please click on the yellow tab to the left titled "oxygen info". O2 must be used with proper mask with a bag on it, (NON-REBREATHER), with a flow rate of at least 15 lpm.

If your Doctor is unwilling to learn, I would try to find a better one. Ha, I know. To find headache Doctors in your area google Neurologists, Headache. We are here to help.
