Jaw pain?
May 1st, 2017 at 11:26pm

I awoke this past Friday to excruciating pain in my teeth or jaw. We have been getting deluged with rain but I just got off a CH cycle a week or so before. I do not have much of a rest between cycles as I am chronic. Since no dentists I called were open Friday, I had to wait until Monday (today). Xrays showed my teeth are not bad so there's nothing to cause this pain. She (dentist)  gave me an Rx for antibiotics, just "in case" I have an infection.

So I am wondering if this could be in any way something to do with CH. Maybe it's arthritis since I get that a LOT, especially with rain and the temp drop in fall.

Thanks in advance for your help and any opinions.  Huh

A lot of people with CH get pain around the jaw / teeth, leading to many people having teeth removed prior to getting a CH diagnosis.

As to why it happens, the trigeminal nerve is activated during a CH and if you look at the image below you can see it has several branches which go near:
  • eye - multiple CH symptoms including tears
  • nose - a runny nose is common
  • teeth / jaw - pain sites

So it could simply just be CH related, however it could be non-CH related too, so working with medical people, doctors / dentists, is appropriate to rule out other causes.

It could absolutely be connected to CH.  One branch of the effected nerve, serves the lower teeth and jaw.  My very first experience with CH was excrutiating pain in my lower teeth.  It's concentrated more around my temple now, but I do sttil sometimes get appalling toothache too.

Michelle,

I get it all the time. Sometimes (like yesterday) it radiates from my left eye downwards into my jaw and teeth. Sometimes upwards and bounces off the inside of my skull.

But the most fun of all is when it does both.

As Mike says, it runs along the nerve.

Peter.

My recent bout has been focused around my teeth and jaw on the cluster side, the first time after 37 years of CH.
