Is it cluster headaches?
Jan 11th, 2018 at 10:02am

My grandson 26 lives with me and has been having headaches since Feb 2016. He has at least 5 or 6 a day. He's been to many different neurologist and finally  found one that is saying he has cluster headaches. It all starts by him getting really nauseous then anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour he sneezes and then the headaches  start. About 2 hours after  the first headache it starts all over again. Nausea, sneeze and headache. The headaches start out severe and let up for about 15 minutes then right back to severe again. He takes percocet for the pain and  the Dr gave him Divalproex sod 250MG and prescribed Oxygen. We are still waiting for the oxygen. He also has Aura with these headaches. What we don't understand is that everywhere we read it says cluster headaches are one sided and his is both temples. Confused. Has anyone on here had the nausea, sneeze and then the cluster headache??

Welcome Lynn,

All headaches are horrible and we understand how difficult they can be to live with.

To be honest, what you describe does not sound like Cluster Headaches. There is a number of Headache types and a Neurologist who specialises in Primary Headaches is essential to get an accurate diagnosis.

Where in the world do you live? There may be people here who can direct you to a properly qualified Headache specialist.

Peter.

Hi Lynn and welcome,
Like Peter said, they don't fit the pattern of your a typical CH's, so that's why we always advise to seek out a headache specialist to get a confirmed diagnosis, but in the meantime have him take the cluster quiz, the link is to your left, and that might shed some light on the matter.

Cheers Hoppy

We've all been through the process of having a headache that isn't at all fun, trying to get to see the right doctor(s) to get a diagnosis.

If you haven't already got one, do start a headache diary, recording details of the headache with day / time / symptoms / pain level / duration / medication used / anything else that may be relevant. This can help with the diagnosis.

Amy questions, ask.
