Cafergot

I have suffered from CH for a long time. Doctors have been unable to help much apart from prescribing verapamil and cafergot. Recently I have played around with the medications to try and prevent CH occurring. I am currently using cafergot as a preventative. Half a tab twice daily. Research tells me cafergot should not be used as a preventative but does not say why. I have had good results for a while but recently not working so well. Can anyone comment about this please?

Ergots aren't recommended to be used long term because of side effects, one being gangrene.

I used Cafergot in various ways,  and like to think I got reasonable results from it,  but that was until a neuro overdosed me seriously on the stuff.  I can't recommend what followed but just be sure to watch for tingling fingers or toes,  sprained ankles or any other such weirdness.

Happily we've other treatments around now with excellent results and much lower risks.

All the best always,

Brian.

Thanks for that Hoppy and Aussie. Yes I have worried about cafergot and vein constriction. Good point. As with you Aussie I have had good results from cafergot over the years but my focus now is on the side effects. I also take verapamil and it has side effects as well. MY CH now spans 29 years. In the past it would go after a while but now it is with me permanent like an old friend. I am in a bad way.

Have you tried D3? It works amazingly well for many of us.
