Massachusetts Doctor Recommendation
Apr 5th, 2022 at 4:24pm

Hi all,

New member and first time posting so hopefully this is the right forum. Thankful to have found this group!

I am wondering if anyone knows any cluster headache specialists in Massachusetts/New England area. I am looking for someone who really has experience in cluster headaches and can help explore treatment options. Verapamil & sumatriptan are thankfully better than nothing but are not working as effectively as hoped. With this last round, if I take sumatriptan tablet 100mg immediately when I start to get the sense of a headache coming on it seems to be effective in stopping it, but if I try to take it and other pain medications once the headache starts the pain can be intense and last for hours. I started taking D3 about a year ago. Had 1 shorter period of headaches in 2021 and was hoping that D3 had solved my CH but about a week ago I started getting intense headaches daily again. Got my Vitamin D 25-OH checked yesterday and am >100ng/mL currently.

Again, looking for a doctor who knows what options are out there for CH and will walk along side me trying to get pain free. Might even be willing to consider doctors throughout the United States if there is someone exceptional.

Thanks!

G'day,  Q630,  and welcome.  I can't help much with finding a doctor in Massachusetts as it's a little out of my territory but I can say that sumatripan tablets aren't a lot of help for CH as they take so long to start working.

Far more popular around here are sumstripan injections as they start so quickly and there's plenty of info here on how to make them go further.

There's also good ol' oxygen as an abortive and a button just on the left side of your screen,  oxygen info ,  will tell you all about it.  Jump on it at the first hint of an attack and the results can be wonderful.

Again,  we've many hints on how best set it up most easily and cheaply.

All the best and let us know how you're getting on.

We care,

Brian down under.

First foremost.... Brian E. McGeeney, MD
He's on the medical advisory board of Clusterbusters and a frequent speaker at Clusterbusters conferences. He KNOWS CH.

Thanks Brian and Racer!

Yes I am hoping to get a prescription for more effective Sumatriptan and Oxygen. Hopefully those will be better at ending the attacks.

Also very happy to hear about Dr. McGeeney! Thanks for the recommendation!
